I don’t know, but I heard that people in India threw dead people into the river because they couldn’t deal with all the dead body. That doesn’t look good for the environment.
What I find good in Europe this summer and last is that there are less vapour trails from aircrafts which block the sun out.
They say there were less emissions and pollution from cars and trains not traveling on the roads, too.
I believe any benefits were short-term since the lock downs didn’t last more than a few months.
Air travel is down 60% so its an ongoing reduction of climate damage
@janbb: Here, a lot of office workers were working from home from March of 2020 to spring or summer of 2021. The County I worked for still has most office people working only a few days a week. Some local friends are working from home permanently.
@jca2 That’s true but I still don’t see that as having a huge effect on the environment whereas the total shutdown did. At least around here this summer, traffic was back at normal levels.
Because of WFH, our consumption of gasoline has been much, much lower than it was 1.5 years ago. Home energy consumption went up because we used more heating and cooling. And we cut down our air travel a lot. I think we generated less CO2 because of Covid.
