What’s better for home voice and security systems?

Asked by JLeslie (65790points) October 15th, 2021 from iPhone

Alexa, Nook, Chromecast, Echo, Siri, I’m just starting to look into this stuff.

I bought an Amazon firestick, but am thinking about buying a Chromecast for my other TV. I also want to add some security to my home. Maybe a video camera and motion detector. Not sure.

I prefer Siri for the privacy aspects. Apple makes its money by selling hardware at a premium. Google, Amazon, etc. make their money by surveilling your activity, building a profile on you and then selling that to others through marketing. When it comes to something as intimate as devices in my home, I’m more than happy to pay a little more to have a company that has it’s financial interest aligned with my privacy interests.

I watched a doucmentary on home security systems and it showed how hackers can hack into them easily and also monitor you at anytime.
Would check that out before decideing on getting hooked.
