Are haunted houses scary?

Asked by YARNLADY (46619points) October 15th, 2021

A bunch of volunteer actors dress up and scream and yell “help” and such. How is that scary, much less worth $20 – $40?

Only if Devidians are involved.

They can be. One scared me horrifically and one of my children got hurt because people acted fools and started running. It was a walk-through house. I have not been in another. My kids have but their dad or uncle took them, not me.

More fun than scary? Mostly. I have heard of at least one “extreme” horror haunted house that is designed to actually terrify you. I don’t know if this is real or hype but I would not do it personally.

I’ve been on a haunted hayride in a cemetery, a very old cemetery where the real people from Washington Irving’s stories are buried, and I can assure you, it was really scary.

I have never liked them – why put yourself through angst?

But I have friends that seek them out for the thrill of it.

This is the cemetery I was referring to. This is not my video but it gives an idea of the place and how creepy it is, even during the day time:

I’m so glad to hear that I’m not the only ‘fraidy cat. The last time I was in a Halloween haunted house I was in my mid 20’s. It was a walk-through, and about halfway through I became terrified to the point of being unable to move. I backed into a corner and lost sight of my sister. As the line slowly moved past, I grasped a little boy’s shoulders and followed him out, holding him like a shield. When I got out I quickly let go before his mother saw me. When I found my sister, I burst into tears and couldn’t stop sobbing. Never again, for any amount of money!
