Do you usually browse the internet with your volume off or on?
Mine is always off. If I leave it on it’s liable to jump out on me at some random time and annoy people around me.
A FB kind of berated me for this habit. She posted a video of the American flag, and below it was one of those dirpy “Go Brandon” flags.
I said “I didn’t know you were anti Biden.”
She said she wasn’t. Long story short she had supplied a voice over that would have put everything in the proper light. She blamed me for misunderstanding because I had the sound off.

Off, always. I do not want to be slammed with noise, whether voices or music or sound effects, every time I enter a site or something pops up..
I watch newscasts with the sound off, shop with the sound off, even watch music videos and sometimes interviews with the sound off. I avoid anything that gives me some kind of little “hurray” or “howdy” or “you win” jingle, even when it’s the NYT Thursday crossword puzzle.
When I want to hear a specific piece of music or listen to some late-night TV guy such as John Oliver, I turn the sound on just for that and then right back off again.
I wish it were as easy IRL as it is on the computer.
I keep mine off, for the same reason as you
Popup video ads have ruined this sort of thing. I leave it on, but very low.
I have mine off for fear of something blaring at me.
On YouTube videos sometimes the volume of my speakers go crazy with a very loud crackling noise and scares the shit out of me.
I have my volume on. But then again I usually browse the Internet with my headphone on so…
Like @Mimishu1995 I keep the sound on but I use headphones which are usually lying on my computer desk.
are you saying there is sound on the internet? What have I been missing all these years!!!
Seriously, It is always off when surfing web sites. I turn it on as a conscience choice when needed.
Usually off unless there is something I want to listen to.
Mine is on but I’m not usually going to random sites where there’s sound.
Just scrolling past random posts on FB can trigger sound.
Yes I do. Off I mean. Don’t care to listen to the annoying ads.
@Dutchess_III: If I click on a video on FB, it’s because I want the sound along with the video. Other than that, I have never had a random post trigger sound on FB. Posts don’t have sound unless it’s a video.
Yeah but when you scroll you also scroll past videos and the sound beats out if your volume is on.
@Dutchess_III: We must scroll differently, because mine doesn’t do that.
How could we scroll “differently”?
@Dutchess_III: I have no clue but I don’t get random pop up things with volume and you do, and I’m on FB a lot (to the point where i think I could confidently and successfully teach a class on it) so I have no other explanation.
My speakers stay turned off until there is something I want to hear. I read news articles and have no use whatsoever for the videos.
