I’m just curious – if I look someone up and they no longer exist in fluther, is it possible that they deleted themselves? or can only mods do that?

Yes, someone can disable their own account by going to My Account > Delete your account (which would bring them here).
I wish we could still see profiles of people who have left. When we look up somebody in an old thread and they’re gone, it would be nice to see a reminder of who they were.
^I’ve left twice. Each time for more than a year. I no longer remember why other than there was grotesque homophobia that was tolerated. Each time I wanted nothing but my questions and answers to remain. I wanted to be gone. My son has instructions to erase my profiles from social media when I die. I don’t want to keep popping up online.
When I see someone is no longer here (account deactivated), I wonder if they deleted themselves or if the mods asked them to leave (because of trollish behavior or something).
^Aww. Thanks. Your doggie will keep you company.
@jca2 Right, which is why I asked the question. I still don’t whether the person left voluntarily or not, but now I know that yes, we can delete ourselves.
I’ve noticed that some people leave their profile up but write a farewell statement, sometimes mentioning why they’re leaving. Others delete for a while and then come back, not sure how they do that.
^The mods can revive a deleted account.
I don’t remember the precise details as to why I left each time, but I remember very well why I returned. The first time, I came back after Gail died, and the second was for John Powell’s illness.
Yes. I’ve done it a dozen times at least.
