Do you watch cooking shows on TV?

Asked by jca2 (16892points) November 20th, 2021

My weekend routine is time on the computer (FB, Fluther, etc.) and watching Food Network. I don’t usually watch carefully, I just leave it on as background noise and glance at it now and then if something is interesting.

I will also occasionally watch PBS cooking shows.

I don’t watch cooking competition shows.

Ironically, I don’t cook too much at home because it’s just the two of us.

How about you? Do you watch cooking shows?

Yes, more often than I should. Usually it’s the British baking contest or PBS. It’s very relaxing and interesting haha!

Oh, yeah, I love them! They are soothing and fun to watch.

Yes. My favorites were/are on PBS. It’s where I discovered Julia Child, Jacques Pepin, Ming Tsai, Sara Moulton, and Nathalie Dupree. Cook’s Country is a current favorite on PBS.

Netflix has given us Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat; Chef’s Table, The Great British Baking Show, and Fresh, Fried & Crispy.

I don’t like the American competition shows. I don’t need smack talk with my food.

@tedibear: I used to like Sara Moulton and also Cooks Country and Cooks Illustrated or whatever the other one was. I liked Christopher Kimball but he’s gone off on his own now. Rumor I heard was that he was not easy to work with. Ming is cute!

No, though I often watch cooking videos on Facebook. (Hangs head in shame!)

If anybody’s a fan of Alton Brown, he has a very amusing YouTube show on his YouTube channel. It’s called “QQ” which was originally “Quarantine Quitchen.” He films it in his Marietta GA loft apt with his wife and dogs. It’s very casual and fun. Every week they make a drink and make some food and chat about it all. It’s kind of also a window into the world of how the other half lives.

Not so much. I watch food documentaries that feature cooking segments, but there has to be a travel element to appeal to me.

Quite often. Some of my favorites are Top Chef and Gordon Ramsey’s shows on Fox. Currently I’m bingeing past seasons of Holiday Baking Championship.

My favorites are the competition shows but I do watch other cooking shows.

No. Except for a while, a year or so, Rick watched some show called Primal Grill every Saturday.

I watch Nailed It and Steven Reichlen project smoke and project fire.

Gordon Ramsay: Uncharted is a wonderful show. He took over in the food/travel shows after Anthony Bourdain passed. https://www.nationalgeographic.com/tv/shows/gordon-ramsay-uncharted

I used to be obsessed with Food Network when it first came on the air. My wife and I watched it constantly. We went to one of Emeril Lagasse’s restaurants when we were in New Orleans and visited the Food Network studios in Chelsea Market in lower Manhattan. Obsessed.

After a while though, it was less interesting. They seem to show a LOT of repeats now. Less original programming. We’ve really dropped off.

Absolutely not even occasionally…no way!

I’ll occasionally fall down the Youtube cooking/recipe rabbit hole. But the only “tv” show I watch is the Great British Baking Show. It’s a competition show without most of the absurdities of US shows.

Watching someone in their own kitchen make a family recipe on Youtube can be very interesting and therapeutic.

^^^^ I love love love GBBS. As much for how much they care about each other as for the yummy confections.

^ That show really is on another level. There is something about the good-natured competition, and the natural lighting and light banter is so different from US competition shows. I was concerned about the loss of Mary Berry, but Prue won me over. Sue and Mel’s departure was also reason for concern, but Noel Fielding grew on me. Matt Lucas, on the other hand…

I used to watch Mary’s Kitchen Crush , the urban peasant (in the 80’s) , and some pastry shows . I don’t have cable anymore.

canidmajor's avatar

@product I always think Matt really doesn’t look appropriate for a baking show, over proved and under baked (said in Paul’s voice).

^ Soggy bottom?

Love GBBS, but missed the last couple seasons.

No. I see them at the doctor’s waiting room, where I wait for my chronically ill MIL two or three times a month, or dentist office, but never on my TV.
