My friends and I are currently working on a project about Glass Ceiling – a phenomenal which prevents subordinate people from thriving in life. Tell us your stories.

I wasn’t invited to a spa party at a women’s spa . . . poor me.
Nothing unreasonable that I recall.
I sure have! ;( I wasn’t able to conceive. :p
All of my life. I showed them though.
At College my Business Management instructor relayed her story .
In a nut shell:
She had been working many years in a successfull business firm and rose up the ranks throughout her time there only to be stopped near the top rank by an old man who ran that business all of his life because he didn’t believe that women should be promoted to higher ranks!
She quit and instead became an Business Instructer at a College , where she warns those comtemplating Employment in a well established Business Firm.
She encouraged women to start there own Business Frims instead by joining together.

My own experience years ago:
As a photographer I was offerred and accepted to manage a Portrait Studio .
First day on the job two or three men disagreed of a female in charge and refused to do anything.
I reported that to the lady who hired me and those men ganged up on her and a legal fight started.
The place was shut down for months as they fought it out with lawyers, employment standards etc
In the end the whole Portarit Fmily Business shut down ( all shops) .
Not sure but they got sued and liguidated all there holdings.
I was so glad that I left before I was in it too long. ( a few days).
It’s nice for the gentlemen that they can be so amused.
I have lost two jobs because I refused to have sex with a manager or supervisor.
I lost a couple of clients for my small yacht detailing business when they realized there was no man involved with the work.
I had an article pulled from a publication when the editor realized I was a woman.
Only a few examples for you.
Female here…born in 1962. The only incident that comes to mind was in seventh grade (12–13 years old) when the music teacher told me that a girl shouldn’t or couldn’t play drums.
What happened? Frankly, I wasn’t good. That had nothing to do with my gender. Fortunately, a female friend a year behind me proved that.
Women still make shat wages here compared to our male counterparts.
Told I couldn’t take shop class in school. I had the aptitude (and if the results from the aptitude test I took in 7th grade had been checked they would have seen that) but I was a girl so I couldn’t.
Nope. Not that I know of. Doesn’t happen to men. Not rubbing it in the nose of the ladies here, just a sad fact of our society. Or maybe, our societal mentality? Worse that ever happened to me, gender discrimination wise, if you will, was a couple or separate occasions (oddly) when I was told by female friends that, “Hey Tim, we’re having a pajama party tonight and you can’t come!” Note to self: Uh, ok. WTF are they talking about?
@KNOWITALL Not in all cases. The company I worked in for 25 years paid women the same amount as men in the same job.
@Pied_Pfeffer Good for you, sounds like your company has decent leadership.
@KNOWITALL I just assumed it was a no-brainer. Why not do the right thing vs. set the company up for a lawsuit?
The pay scale was set by a dept. that did the research to compare it to similar posts in the same industry. A position’s salary wasn’t set by Human Resources or the manager. Increases were based upon two factors: industry average and individual performance. For the latter, goals were set each year. Quarterly meetings were held to measure how each individual was performing in these goals. That way, there were no surprises at the end of the year.
