Would you be wiling to respond to this for my International Baccalaureate Political Engagement Activity?
Given Charlotte’s growing Hispanic/Latino community, to what extent does the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 (“IRCA”) impact the construction industry?

It is part of an ongoing political engagement activity. It is important to note that I came up with this question. It has also been approved for my Global Politics HL II class. The point is to venture and inquire about this specific subject. I’ve presented the idea of going on forums (like this one) to my teacher and have been given the green light.

The engagement activity is reliant on outside input: interviews, potential job shadows, whatever engagement it may be, as long as it is approved. I’ve conducted interviews already and this “engagement” would be considered a “group discussion,” which would be supplementary to my overall product. Alas, if this is something no one is willing to contribute to, then I’ll have to come up with another activity to conduct.

So, you are talking about Charlotte, North Carolina? 1986 was about 35 years ago.
I don’t know anything about North Carolina, but I lived in an area that had a large Latino population. I had a friend who runs a contract cleaning company. He’s been in business for over 20 years. He has a high number of undocumented employees.
Why? He simply couldn’t and still can’t find anyone else willing to work those hours (often all night).
His employees stripped and waxed the vinyl tile floors of many stores in the area.
I don’t know if this helps you with your question, but it’s a start.
I think you should look to ask a builders’ association in Charlotte.
Sounds like another homework question.
Dutch, read his/her first two responses. It pretty well explains what they’re up to and I think it’s legit.
