Is this site usually dead?

Asked by Austin_ (461points) December 17th, 2021

Just hoping that this site actually has a decent community left and is at least decently active from time to time.

Hi and welcome to Fluther. We are a smaller group now a days, but we are still active.
Stick around and ask questions.
We love new questions coming in from newbies that make us think and stretch our minds.

Some times are more active than others. I notice usually between around 12 midnight and early morning Eastern time (US), many Jellies are probably sleeping so there’s not much going on. It’s a small group of maybe 40 total so it tends to be slow anyway. I think “dead” is a relative term and it’s very slow compared to some other sites but it is what it is. We are an intimate group because we’re so small and many have been here a long time.

This site seems to be a world-wide thing so it makes sense, at least to me, to ask a question, or make a comment, and then wait at least 24 hours to see if anyone will respond to what one might say.

Awesome. Thanks everyone!

Look elsewhere.

@SnipSnip I don’t know, think I’m starting to like it.

Don’t pay any attention to @SnipSnip.

Welcome, @Austin_. There’s a lot to like and a little to put up with, and we kind of skew to the quirky side, but some people fit right in and become old-timers after just a month or two. The really old old-timers have been around for more than ten years, as their profile pages show.

It’s okay to be a little dead as long as we’re not entirely dead. People who come on here just to stir things up generally don’t stay.

(One thing to note: there’s no new development. So it’s pretty much WYSIWYG.)

Ever go to the beach and find a jellyfish, then poking it with a stick?
That’s what you’re doing.

@Austin_ Welcome. Reports of our demise have been wildly exaggerated.

Fluther usage varies over holidays and special events. Also time of day. I would say that we have 30 main Jellies (long-term users). We used to have 100’s years ago.

Awesome. Thanks again.

It sometimes smells pretty bad late in the afternoon but it isn’t dead.

@Austin_, come see the informal census over here. Our count is over 75 already.

@flutherother, afternoon in what time zone? It’s nearly 4:00 p.m. here on the day after the solstice (days getting longer already!), and things seem pretty fair and fragrant to me.

@Jeruba Tidal pools can get a bit stale under the warm afternoon sun. A breeze from the sea or from the inland fields can make all the difference. Or someone new dropping by.

Not at all. The people here are just as tame as the animals kept in cages in zoos. You will enjoy the “tameness” of the people here. Have lots of fun, especially with the curtailed tongues. It’s like kids public broadcasting: rated G.
