What are some of your plans for christmas?

Asked by Austin_ (461points) December 18th, 2021

I really enjoy getting to know stuff about you all. I think overall this is a really wholesome and fun community and I actually enjoy being here. I thought this was some website I would just come to and maybe just see what’s going on and ditch it but I’ve really grown to like it. Thanks for all the warm welcomes. Anywaaay…

What are some things you have planned for Christmas (given you celebrate it) and what are some of your favorite things you enjoy doing during it. I really enjoy spending time with family, just enjoying their company while it lasts, just taking time to appreciate how amazing everyone is, family, girlfriend, everything. It’s a holiday that really brings everyone together.

I will not be with family again this year. Instead, my friends and I will have a BBQ in the park. It will be good fun.

I hoped I would be home with my husband, and out dancing on the 25th for a couple of hours, and I’m sure I’d run into some friends.

Now, it looks like maybe dinner one night with friends or traveling 3.5 hours for dinner with my Inlaws. I hope either way I still get to go out dancing on the 25th, I like the band that’s playing.

My preference is the original plan to go nowhere and just be with my husband and then out to see the band on the 25th, but I don’t think I’ll get my preference, I never thought it would wind up being that anyway. I’ve said for two months now to my close friends when they ask what we are doing for Christmas, “my husband says he doesn’t want to go to his parents for Christmas, but I bet in the end that’s what we wind up doing.” About five days ago my husband suddenly had a ~brilliant~ idea that maybe we should go to his parents house for Christmas.

Honestly, I don’t want to take the covid risk. I feel like last night I was in the middle of a covid risk going to dinner when it was obvious a ton of visitors were in town, and if I’m not sick in the next 5 days I will consider myself lucky. I want to “stay home” for a month.

A fireside breakfast on Christmas morning and lunch at a friend’s.

Dinner and opening a few gifts at my brothers house. I didn’t get to see my family last year, so I’m looking forward to seeing them this Christmas.

Cocooning on my sofa, after a visit to my parents.
As do the British, we celebrate two days, so that’s double cocooning for me.
Together with my lovely cat!

Hopefully spending Christmas Day at my sister’s as is the usual tradition. She and I decorated her tree last week. That is always a nice time.

My son and his family are supposed to come. If they don’t (they are very Covid careful), we will go see the new Spiderman movie.

I’m off several days and love to cook, so coffee with Irish whiskey then the kitchen. I made banana bread today and will make pumpkin rolls with cream cheese filling maybe Thursday.
We’ll do movies, enchiladas and cookies Friday w cocktails, then up early to cook Saturday. Presents and things after lunch.
Sunday and Monday restaurant lunches and presents with extended family. Back to work Tuesday.

Christmas Eve will be dessert and presents with the in-laws. I have to work until 1:00 PM, so I’ll go home, change clothes, grab stuff and go. Christmas Day at home with my husband and the cats. Back to work on Monday.

If anyone sees my holiday spirit while they’re out and about, please send it back. I’m not feeling very holiday-ish this year.

I’ll just be chilling out and opening packages with immediate family, wife / son / grandchildren. Probably DIL as well. Otherwise nothing spectacular. Can’t even say I’ll be sitting by the fireplace because the weather is predicted to be sunny and balmy. Highs at 80F. I can live with that. : )
