When you think of how brief and small all our beliefs, thoughts, feelings, and deeds are in the scope of the cosmos - Does it seem insignificant, or more miraculous?

Maybe it’s a good time to wonder :

I am going for insignificant when compared to the scope of the cosmos.

@SQUEEKY2 – Right.

And maybe some humility could be the start of a little wisdom.

Such a cheery bunch on this Christmas Eve. And I’m at work so I can’t even go belly up with that bottle of whiskey my boss bought me. Nice feller but not real bright I’d have to say. Well, maybe just one shot, medicinal purposes only. Been a bit under the weather lately. ; )

https://youtu.be/1qYz7rfgLWE. Here ya go, some holiday music to cheer us up. The stupid cosmos can fend for itself this weekend. Get out there and dance, I’ll keep the beer cold. No need to thank me, rough gig but someone has to do it. : )

I usually think that given the scope of the universe, we (Earth-bound humans), and all of our little accomplishments and beliefs, must be insignificant.

However, what if it turns out we really are the most advanced intelligent life in the universe?

That’s selling the universe a bit short. Ya think? Now I’m depressed, think I will pull the cork on that whiskey.

I saw 2 American musicals in the space of 2 days this week. I believe humans are capable of great feats of brilliant shining beauty. (West Side Story and Tick Tick Boom. I recommend both highly.)

Why must we make a distinction? We are a part of the Universe, the whole of which is quire extraordinary. I like the way Sartre put it. We are creators of the Universe, not in the sense of putting it together, but for being able to conceive of it in its entirety

Thinking about the cosmos and the insignificance of my own little concerns gives me pause – and comfort.

It IS significant in that we are all connected as one collective and any thing we think or do has meaning good or bad that affects our humanity of living on this planet.

Everything we do has significance because it affects us and others and our place in this world.

Never think that you don’t matter, because in fact YOU certainly do.

If our thoughts and beliefs are insignificant in relation to the vastness of the universe then that thought itself is insignificant and we are back where we started. I look at it this way:

“The universe is an infinite sphere whose centre is everywhere and whose circumference is nowhere.”

And so, it follows that nothing is insignificant, or maybe everything is.
