What are TV shows that are so bad they make you cringe but you watch anyway?

Asked by Caravanfan (13788points) January 8th, 2022

Right now for me it’s Cobra Kai. I mean it’s cartoonishly bad, but I still watch it.

Normally I would have said Star Trek Discovery, but after season 3, which for me marked the culmination of a 3 season long spiral from bad to horrendous, I stopped watching the show altogether.

Caravanfan's avatar

@ragingloli I haven’t seen season 3 yet. I think the whole spore drive thing is stupid.

I really can’t do that, watching a bad show/series.
For instance, when I was visiting friends last year, on a daily basis, they were watching Friends.
Which has, in all the, maybe, 60 minutes all together, that I’ve seen it, never gotten a laugh out of me, not even a “ha, that was clever/witty”.
It actually enrages me.
How can so many TV watchers like that drivel, is what I’m asking myself.
Anyway, I left and went home.

@Caravanfan
Trust me, their stupid mushroom drive is the least of that show’s problems.

janbb's avatar

@rebbel There does have to be something rewarding in it for me even if it is a fluff show. But you didn’t care if Rachel and Ross ended their “break”? :-)

rebbel's avatar

I don’t know who they are (maybe Ross is the actor that looked like that guy that stole a six-pack in a store a few years back?).

Humor, when it is supposed to be a comedy, is important for me (the quality of it); with Friends I just can’t find any.
Any .

Ohhhh suuuure. . .embarrass me! The Brady Bunch

I also still watch the Andy Griffith Show, but I don’t consider it bad, just really old.

None really if they are so bad that they make me cringe I can do something else.
But to be honest I do really like one really old show called What’s my line, where the panel has to guess the the persons occupation.

Caravanfan's avatar

@ragingloli Well, a buddy of mine ripped them and put them on my hard drive 2 months ago. Season 3 is just sitting there and I just haven’t gotten around to it yet. That should say something about my interest.

Those bachelor/ bachelorette shows are cringe worthy. When I had company last summer, they had to watch it. I don’t understand how it’s on TV.
Oh, to be clear, I only watch when someone makes me.
I watch all those HGTV shows that are cringe worthy, though.

“Friends” is one of those programs you have to watch from S1 E1 to begin to appreciate it. Kind of like “MASH” or “Cheers.”

Cobra Kai is on my TV right now! Only because my husband watches it, I wouldn’t otherwise. I was interested at first, because I loved the original movie, but the amount of fighting and rivalry is idiotic and immature to me, and I hate the violence.

Friends was always kind of boring and inane to me, but I watched it.

Grey’s Anatomy has these stupid long speeches characters make every so often. Annoying.

Cheers. It was ok. I grew to like it more, but never loved it.

I think one of the first one of these I saw was the Anna Nicole Smith show. It was like watching a long, drawn out, train wreck in slow motion. You just had to watch.

“Search Party” on HBO Max. The first and second season started out as a really entertaining dark comedy with a lot of funny satire, but the show is now in its 5th season, and it’s one of the dumbest shows I’ve ever seen.

First episode of the fifth season starts out as a parody of A.I. Artificial Intelligence, where a gay couple adopts a ten year old boy for 400,000 dollars, who is cloned by DNA to be a “perfect child”. This is in a show that used to be in the crime/mystery genre, and set in the real world and not sci-fi.

“And Just Like That…,” the reboot of “Sex and the City.” The writing’s so bad, and the characters have become unlikeable. About a week ago, my once-mild interest turned to hate-watching. I think I’m done.

“Family Guy” is pretty low-brow humor. But that’s why I like it: sometimes I just want to laugh; I don’t need to think.

Cornation Street which is a long term family drama where everyone has a difficult problem in life. Of course they don’t take the common sense route but some far out left field route..I suppose thats supposed to keep the viewers watching?
Its getting rediculous lately and stopped watching it all the time but now intermittantly only.

I think Cobra Kai is brilliantly bad. Like how bad it is, is what makes it so great. Haha

The montages are the best.

I prefer the Capulets @raum.

Yes yes!! :D

Does it count if the show is intentionally over-the-top cringe-worthy like “Curb Your Enthusiasm” ?
