And when will we have pigs that are solid bacon? This 6 year old asks intriguing questions.

Because like people, sheep are racist and prefer to mate with sheep of similar colors
Because, basically, we humans shouldn’t interfere with which sheep dates which other sheep.
It’s much harder to breed different colors and to have them keep those colors through the generations that it is to dye white wool after it is off the sheep. Imagine a red ewe and a yellow ram mating. They might have orange offspring and then you’d have to start working on breeding more red and yellow sheep.
Now while I support the idea (in theory) of a solid bacon pig, it wouldn’t work. The pig could never move. Bacon is mainly fat with little “muscle” in it. Besides, if it was all bacon, where would we get our ham?
Why can`t they just dye their wool?

Damnit I don’t know! Damn good question!
It would be too difficult to keep the colors separate while shearing the sheep. And they can always change the colors later when things are made from it.
@Ikara….I bred with a black guy for 10 years. Saying (everyone) wants to breed with their own color is remarkably racist.
For a while I kept looking for spareribs with 16 bones so I could easily split it with my family of 4. Then I realized that someone would need to genetically alter a pig to have more ribs. Yum!
