How come no one ever uses the fluther chat rooms?

Asked by vimead1 (600points) February 25th, 2022

Barely anyone ever uses the fluther chat rooms and I don’t understand why they wouldn’t use it.

If I wanted to use it, I would have to have plenty to say that someone would/might want to hear and have the time to sit in there waiting for someone to come along who wanted to converse with me. I just don’t have the time to just sit around for that long a time waiting for “God” knows who to come along.

Since I joined, I’ve always been told that the chat doesn’t work properly. I was invited once & it seemed to work to me, but I didn’t have much to say at the time that flowed with the conversation at hand.

Fluther has more chatrooms than the three main ones. Sometimes they are used for private discussions.

I feel like chat rooms are stupid. if I need to say something to someone, I’ll just pm them.

@jca2 in the past Fluther would have town hall meetings about the quality of the site and the direction for the future. We had 30–50 members at once.

Several of our most active chatters have passed away.
It used to be a variety of us would go into the chat, and talk to his or her self until someone else popped in. It didn’t take long.
John Powell and Espiritus Corvus we’re good at that. I too would fit in that crowd. Sadly, the two men are gone. Ibstubro was usually on hand to jump in if someone was waiting. He too has passed.
So far, I haven’t seen anyone interested in chatting with me, and right now I am in, and right back out because I’m getting ready to move.
