He played the president in a TV series and then got elected for real.
He is a staunch, loyal defender of his country and a brave man.
I knew nothing about him before this week but I am learning more now. He is a young father and Jewish and as @Jeruba says, he seems very brave. I am terribly saddened and helpless feeling about what is going on in Ukraine.
It’s been reported via the Ukrainian Embassy in London that the U.S. has offered to evacuate him. Zelensky replied: “The fight is here. I need ammunition, not a ride.”
He’s Jewish and a total badass. Any other world leader would have been on a plane to another country days ago.
This is the same Zelensky that Trump withheld military aid from to pressure him—quid pro quo—into digging up dirt on Hunter Biden, resulting in Trump’s first impeachment.
Go to bbc.com and look at the front-page piece headed Ukraine: Woman confronts armed Russian soldier. I think this will link to it: https://www.bbc.com/news/av/world-europe-60525996
(The BBC site is one of my favorite sources for news from a non-U.S. perspective.)
An older woman walks up to an armed Russian soldier on the street and gives him hell for being there. Then she tells him to take these sunflower seeds and put them in his pocket so flowers will grow where he dies in her country.
I love her.
“I will stay in my country and if I die, I will die with my soldiers”
If someone can help me find an official source for that quote, I’d appreciate it. I saw it on Reddit and can’t seem to find it. But either way, it’s being quoted as the President of Ukraine saying it.
If true, he seems like one hell of a man. So that’s what I know about him, he is very brave.
I don’t believe any of the most recent US presidents would ever say anything like that. Democrat or Republican.
@SergeantQueen The only sources I’ve found are Reddit, Youtube, and Facebook. None of which I consider reliable sources

You have already seen the posts on Reddit. I don’t have a FB account, so I can’t see that one.If you want to see it, it’s in the group damn thats interesting › groups › damnthatsinteresting › posts › 644731240143313
I went back to watch the YT vid and it seems compelling, but he’s speaking in his native language and I don’t understand a word of it so I can’t verify what he was saying.
Nothing really, but can say that about almost every world leader. Ruler of Liberia or Lichtenstein? No idea.
A former TV entertainer elected President that is not a pathetic and dangerous douchebag. Quite the exact opposite it seems.
Zelensky is a Ukrainian living in Ukraine and has vowed to stay there with his family despite being Putin’s number 1 target and his family number 2. I found out only yesterday that his top aid survived an assassination attempt last year.
It takes courage to stand up to Putin and Zelensky deserves respect for his courageous and principled stance. We aren’t used to seeing politicians of his calibre. Whatever happens, Ukraine can be proud.
This was in my email this morning. I’m assuming that this performance was before the war started. It’s hilarious! I’ve read that he used to be a comedian
Anyone willing to stand up to Putin the Bully gets my respect automatically
