Did you ever get suckered into buying in-game merchandise?
Tell your story.
In 2009 I bought $250 worth of healing potions and buffs for my character. I stopped quickly after I realized how much I spent in a month. Which is a shame because I liked the game.

This is basically how mobile games these days operate, hook you up into a free game then demand money for “upgrades”. I have never paid anything and never will. This is an insidious tactics to drain your money and there will never be enough “upgrades”.
Suckered? No. However, I’ve chosen to buy app add on and stuff. Enjoyed them.
I’ve always held the opinion that in-game purchases were directly targeted to players who had access to what they call “disposable income”. Living paycheck to paycheck, the concept of “disposable income” is something I can only imagine.
This is not to say I haven’t made in-game purchases, but being “suckered” into doing so had nothing to do with it.
I did so because I wanted to.
End of story.
When I was much younger yes. I had a game where you took care of dogs and one of the dogs had cancer. The game told me if I wanted the dog to live I had to pay 2.99. I was between 4 and 5 years old and didn’t fully grasp that it wasn’t a real dog so yeah.
