Have you seen any interviews with Russians who support the invasion of Ukraine?

Asked by JLeslie (65789points) March 2nd, 2022 from iPhone

The only interviews I’ve seen are Russians against what Putin is doing.

There is an entire army following orders by Putin to start this war, so I’m guessing at least some of these soldiers and some of the Russian people support the invasion, or at minimum agree that Ukraine should be part of Russia.

What are these Russians saying exactly? What do they believe will happen or improve by taking over Ukraine?

Are any Ukrainian citizens in favor of being part of Russia again? What do they say? Can’t they go to Russia if they want to live under Russian rule?

I have not, but it’s hard to know. Simply based on percentages, I’m sure some Russian citizens must agree with Putin. I doubt it’s a majority.

I definitely would not think that many (if any) Ukrainians are welcoming of this invasion. That would shock me.

I heard one Russian who supported the annexation of Crimea say that they supported the invasion of Ukraine, that Putin is helping save “ethnic Russians” in the Donbas who are being oppressed by the Ukrainian government. So some people are buying the usual narrative.

After the annexation of Crimea, Putin’s popularity rose by 20 percentage points. I don’t think that’s going to happen this time.

I heard this morning Putin’s approval rating is up 10 points.

I have heard a couple of on-the-street interviews of people parroting the party line, including a woman who says Putin would never lie to them.

I haven’t seen anything stating the Army supports Putin. I did see one report that was a copy of a text a soldier sent his mother saying that they had been told that the people of Ukraine were waiting to welcome the troops to help protect them from the US

Older Russians who get their information through official Russian channels tend to support Putin. Younger Russians who use social media and Internet VPN’s are better informed.

It’s Russia, so I wouldn’t believe it if I had.

At this point, I don’t trust anything I see or hear from any side. I’m sure that some of it is true and I’m just as sure that some of it is propaganda

Russia citizens are against the invasion as to my knowledge. The army that support Putin are either for the attack and join just because of that. Members of the Russian army might have their life threatened by Putin then they will fight to save their lives or family lives. But to my concern is that the people in Russia’s army only joined just because they are like Putin.

Reporters talking him up, but you know their media has to have Putins approval. So, I’m sure anything from them is forced.

State media in Russia are controlled by the government, that is Putin. It draws “historical parallels” between Russia’s “special military operation” in Ukraine and the Soviet Union’s fight against Nazi Germany. It is pure propaganda that doesn’t mention the scale of the Ukrainian resistance or the one million refugees fleeing westward but that is how Putin maintains the support of the Russian people.

Even if they are only watching propaganda, what are they thinking?

It could be a Russian-American or someone else completely outside of Russia too. I didn’t mean necessarily a Russian citizen inside of Russia.

Actually, I didn’t say this in my OP, but anyone outside of Russia, if they support Russia’s actions, I just wonder what groups they are a part of and who they are listening too.

The current Russian army is made up of a bunch of draftees who were never trained before being placed on the front line. Many were told they were being sent to Crimea for training only to be dumped into Ukraine with people shooting at them. I’m not so sure that they are fighting for Putin’s ideals as much as to live to return home ASAP
