Who knows a way to extract text messages from the iPhone 3G?
I have an iPhone 3G that contain SMS messages that I don’t want to lose. Is there an app that will let me extract them from the iPhone backup?

Hello jakecamara welcome to fluther
I have this program: Filemagnet
http://www.magnetismstudios.com/filemagnet/
I have used it to put files up on my palm. It says it can transfer files back down as well. You might want to look at the sight and see if it solves your problem.
Phoneview from Ecamm lets you move a variety of content between your Mac and the iPhone, including viewing and exporting SMS messages.
Costs 19.95 but there is a free demo available
Syphone from Micromat is a utility that exclusively serves to work with SMS messages on your Mac from the iPhone. It however doesn’t seem to work with the latest iPhone OS 2.1 update so you’ll have to wait for an updated release.
Is unsupported but free
For the nerdful there’s also a somewhat dirty kind of hack to do it for free if you’re phone is jailbroken from Lifehacker .
A quick Google search yielded these answers on the first page…
BUT feel free to use this site if you like personal back and forth with people who trouble shoot with you after all that is what the site is for.
I use Syphine, but haven’t tried it since the 2.1 update… I’ll be bummed if it isn’t working, but Micromat will likely update soon.
@Bri_L Absolutely! Sorry if it looked as if I intended otherwise, which is why I used whisper? I just meant that good Googling can sometimes help to get you an answer immediately, where as Fluther you’d have to wait and see if something comes out that’s helpful.
No worries.
I just had someone give me a trouble about that once and as this was a new user I wanted to chime in. I am aware of you, your answers and your kickass fluthername and enjoy them all.
sorry I sounded so snickity.
No probs in the least, I hadn’t noticed that this was a question from a newer user so I can see the wisdom not being all “Just Google It”. FLUFFY FINGERS.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
You have MAD reference skills my friend!
Sysphone still works, it’s just a little buggy — you have to uncheck a preference to make it work.
