What did Putin hope to gain by putting "personal sanctions" on Biden and other top officials?

Noone seems to be taking this seriously. Clinton tweeted “I’d like to thank Russia for the Lifetime Achievement Award’ of sanctions.”

What does Putin hope to gain?

He doesn’t want them in Russia.

Missing on the list are Tangerine Make-up (bad comb-over) and Moscow Mitch.

Basically everyone is saying “Who the hell wants to go Russia anyway?”

Points with the hometown “Make Russia Great Again” crowd.

Impotent flailing is what it is.
But hey, at least Fucker Carlson is still liked by Putin and his propaganda machine.

Soooooooo . . . . all Republicans are still welcome ?

It’s less than a joke. It’s equivalent to Bangladesh or North Korea leveling sanctions. As if anyone is looking to visit or hide their purloined riches in a 3rd world cesspool.

Trump’s going to run to Russia and claim to save the day @Tropical_Willie.

No + + + + Putin made sure there it was okay for 14 year olds to give “Golden Showers” Trump’s favorite!

Tit for tat. So childish!

The only part that may be of concern is the freezing of assets, if they had any.

They are banned for life.

Once he has Ukraine, that becomes included, and lots of holdings exist there.

It hints to other countries how he will favor or rebuke those allied with current administration.

It also includes no US currency will be accepted. That drastically reduces the value of our currency.

None of it is Trump’s doing, so bringing him up at all on this thread is evidence of TDS.

@Patty_Melt I agree. It might not mean much now but down the line… Yeah that could cause problems.

Also, agree on the Trump thing. He isn’t president anymore but based on how much people still talk about him- positively, or negatively- You’d think he still was. He sure lives rent free in a lot of peoples heads for being so hated.

Well he DID get air time.
A bully needs his followers to admire him and to bolster his standing in Russia.

The guy has delusions of grandeur I believe. Thinks the world actually cares about his petty BS. Maybe Trump does, or Steven Seagal. Not much of anyone else.

HP's avatar

Delusions? My guess is that his “grandeur” appears quite visible and is relatively assured.

Nomore_Tantrums's avatar

In his own mind. I think he’s off his rocker.

I suppose we each have our own definition of “crazy”. Mine is behavior that makes no sense. I look at what Putin is doing and has done, and conclude that it all makes perfect sense and is the ONLY reason he sits atop of the ash heap that is Russia.

kritiper's avatar

He wants to be famous, like Stalin.

HP's avatar

And that has achieved.. only compared to Stalin, Putin is Mother Teresa
