What task is your least favorite after coming home from a trip?

Asked by janbb (63257points) March 21st, 2022

As many of you know, I’ve just come home from a trip. I’ve done my laundry and unpacking and will soon go food shopping.

I’m going through the mail and and finding that the most onerous task. It’s mainly bills and tax records and charitable solicitations but a pain to sort out.

Hence, this question.

I always hate doing all the laundry when I get back from a trip.

I usually don’t feel right at home, the first days after coming back from a trip (abroad).
So, climatise would be my answer.
I need some time to reconnect and ‘rediscover’ my hometown/country/culture.
Used to be days to a week about, these days it goes a bit faster.

Laying in the regular perishables. Ugh.

I don’t mind doing the laundry.

I hate sorting and folding it after.

@rebbel This was from the other coast and it feels great to be home although I couldn’t sleep last night. I had forgotten how intense it was to be with family and friends 24/7.

I know what you mean about coming home from abroad though.

Going through the mail.

Beyond the fact that I typically hate coming home?
I just came home from two vacations in the past 3 weeks so it is fresh in my mind.
1) The task of going back to work to over 1000 emails
2) The task of getting my dog back into a normal rhythm
3) The task of explaining to friends how amazing my time off was.

Paying for the trip.

Good point @RedDeerGuy1
It is why I always pay for everything possible prior to leaving on the trip.

I dislike bringing everything into the house. It’s not hard to get into my house, but it’s just a pain in the ass, bringing suitcase, other bags, cooler, whatever. Once it’s all in the house, I am ok with not unpacking it all at once.

Not applicable because you flew and didn’t drive. But I greatly dislike cleaning out the car after a road trip.

(I’ve got kids. So it gets pretty gross.)

I hate the flying. I love being places and visiting people. I hate being inside an airplane. It’s not comfortable even when I pay for the extra legroom.

The worst thing about getting home is waking the next morning to unpacked bags. I want to wake the next day with things appearing that I never left. So, regardless of the hour, I unpack and shower before going to bed. Going through the mail isn’t a big thing for me; someone picks up our mail for us when we are gone so she’s already thrown out the junk and called me about anything not routine. It does seem that when we travel, we always get home in the middle of the night.

Waiting my turn to get into the bathroom!

I don’t like unpacking but I nearly always do it as soon as I get home.

If it’s a week or less then my least favorite is unpacking everything and putting it all in its place.

If it’s two weeks or more then it’s the mail and paying the bills, because it has to be done under a time crunch usually.

I agree with @TW: Going through the mail as 98% is junk mail.

Yes, there is something I have against unpacking. Maybe it’s a feeling that if I don’t unpack and put away the suitcase that I am still on vacation :)
