Next to the person’s name will be a small arrow, facing down. Click on it, and it has a bunch of options. One of them is “delete chat.” Click on that.
Oh – I see now. You have to open the chat though to delete it. What if it’s spam and you don’t want to click on it?
Find a arrow pointing down and click or tap it and click or delete message.
From archived chats, long press the message you want to delete and you should have an option called remove. If you want to delete an entire conversation, go to archived chats and long press the person’s name and there should be an option to delete the conversation.
You don’t have to open chat. There are three little dots by the message in messenger. Click. Remove is one of the options.
@SnipSnip There’s where it seems like it should be but it’s not on mine. There’s the dots but no Remove option.
It also may be different from your phone app vs. doing it on computer. I do most of those things from computer, so when I looked for how to do it, I gave instructions from computer version.
@jca2 I’m using it on my desktop mainly too. Is there a way on there to delete without opening the message to see the down arrow?
@all I found the down arrow next to the name now. It seems to appear when you search for a chat not when a chat is active.
Anyway, thanks for the help all! By George, I think I’ve got it.
@janbb: When you look at the Messenger banner on the side, you’ll see the three dots like @SnipSnip said. When you click on the three dots, one of the drop down choices will be Delete Chat. You click on that and it deletes the entire thread for that person.
Ok – I’m getting clearer. I was looking at the drop down for the horizontal three dots but I now see the vertical three dots.
Thanks.
If it’s someone who is spamming you, and you don’t want to receive their messages any more, you can also block them using the three dot drop down, @janbb.
@jca2 Oh yeah – I saw that already and did it. Thanks.
@janbb Perhaps it’s different on a phone than on a desktop. I use a desktop.
@janbb if you can’t delete the message on your phone then try to do it on your computer.
