Is there anything we can help you celebrate?

Asked by Jeruba (56061points) March 30th, 2022

Yesterday, today, tomorrow, this week, this year?

You can help me celebrate a modest goal achieved: i have just completed a 180-day streak of solving the daily New York Times crossword puzzle.

I set that goal after making and breaking a 60-day streak. Half a year seemed long enough. The pressure! Going to take a rest now.

Not to say I never had help; but when I got totally stuck, I avoided looking up answers directly if I could. For example, If a clue said “Dog breed developed to guard monasteries,” I would make a guess and look up “Lhasa apso” rather than searching the clue directly. But yeah, sometimes I just had to peek, especially in subjects like sports, where I knew nothing.

The stuff I learned that way did stick sometimes for later puzzles.

Anyway, I’m thrilled to have made it, and I’d love to cheer for you too. What have you done?

Congrats! I have no patience doing crossword puzzles. If the puzzle is too hard, I quit on the spot and look up the answer. I’m so amazed at your persistence.

What do you want me to serve you?

CONGRATS @Jeruba I love doing crosswords but the Times is a bitch to complete. I was impressed with your 60-day mark & MORE than impressed with 180 days!!! Your rest is well deserved!!!

Flame bait and four moderated comments on a feel good thread? :/

I beat my 12yo on wordle yesterday! (To be fair, she’s getting really good. She got wordle in two a couple days in a row.)

It’s been a banner week for me in many ways. I totally screwed up at a cake decorating class on Tuesday and lived to tell the tale, and hiked 5 miles with a new hiking group this morning. And perhaps biggest of all, I achieved 60K lurve yesterday.

The party’s still going on next door and I think there’s even some fish left.

That’s no mean feat, @janbb! Considering how few of us are here (comparatively) and the fact that most of us maxed out on you years ago, Woo Hoo!

60k and 5 miles hiking! Wow what a banner week for you @janbb!

Tenth day on diet, down 8 pounds.

Thank you. I am enjoying the feeling today that I don’t have to do the crossword puzzle or even think about it. I started doing it daily because I could feel my vocabulary getting cloudy and I wanted to polish it up.

Hurray for @janbb‘s 60k and 5-mile hike and for surviving a disastrous cake experiment!
Hurray for @raum‘s winning at Wordle!
Hurray for @Tropical_Willie‘s diet success! (Want to share the program?)

I’m ready to cheer for anybody’s promotion to president and anybody’s frying a perfect egg.

It is a low carbohydrates / Keto diet – - 75 grams or lower of carbs each day. Lots of eggs and lean meat also salads and low carbohydrates veggies. My wife wanted to go on it again, she got the diet plan from a Doctor (nutritionist).

Big cheers, guys.

Just got my step-daughter married off! We can celebrate that. Or we could celebrate that I now have my spare room back.

Forgot to circle back before now. Hurray for @seawulf575 for family celebration!
