Non-Americans outside the U.S.: Have you visited the U.S.?

Asked by Jeruba (56106points) April 3rd, 2022

If so, where did you go?
What did you see?
What did you think?

Would you come back?

And—did the Americans you met here seem just like the ones you’ve seen visiting your country, or not?

If you’re not a visitor but live here on a visa, please say so.

Yeah of course,I even have a few relatives that are Americans,I am surprised that from about the hundred mile mark north to the Canadian border those Yankees know a great deal about Canada but south of that it drops way off and they know very little about Canada.
Parts of the states are very beautiful.
I haven’t been state side for just about twenty years now and lately your country really scares the shit out of me with the day to day violence ,against people and other countries.

Yes, I’ve been a number of times. Mostly to Texas, when I was younger, for shopping, now mostly to NY, on business (pre pandemic, though I’ve already been once since, late last year). I’ve also been to LA, SF, Chicago, Santa Fe and Orlando.

The Americans I’ve met in the US have for the most part been less loud than the ones I’ve met here, ha.

I lived in the Deep South, in Alabama for about year altogether between 2004 and 2008. The beaches along the Gulf of Mexico were fantastic and I loved Bellingrath Gardens. For much of the year the weather is idyllic but the summers are too hot and humid. It hit 106F when I was there which made it impossible to do anything out of doors. At other times it was nice to have early morning breakfast or an evening barbeque on the patio.

People didn’t seem to walk or cycle very much. To get anywhere you had to drive as public transport wasn’t very good. The supermarkets, shopping malls, fast food places, dentists everything was widely dispersed. Even the churches would be difficult to get to without a car and the church was a major way people made social contact.

I would go back to the States but not to the South. If I was to return it would be to the west coast as a visitor.

Many of the people I got to know in Alabama were not wealthy and many had never travelled outside of the USA. They seemed like people back home.

Road trip many years ago for trip with husband to Spokane.
Discovered that it was only the arrogant ones that travel to Cnada nad other countries that give the U.S. a bad rapp.
I suspect that their own country doesn’t want them either.
Jerks travel ,leaving a bad image of Americans no matter where they go.
