It definitely won’t explode. The only thing that may happen is that it will say something along the lines of, “This adapter does not work with this current ipod,” or something of that nature, if it doesn’t work, that is.
No-the mini was powered off of FireWire, while the nano is powered off of USB; even though the dock connectors are the same, the end that connects to the computer is not; their pin-outs are different and the power part is delivered on a different set of pins. Inadvertently plugging the wrong cable will do nothing to the iPod except you won’t see it mount in iTunes.
i believe the mini came with a usb and a firewire cable. while the firewire was used to charge with the wall adapter, you could use the USB cable on the computer. if you are using the USB cable with the computer, it will work no problem
Yeah my 3rd gen Ipod Classic came with both a firewire and usb cable. Subsequently on my new Ipod Classic (final gen… so sad) I can use both cables for it without any issues, which is super sweet since firewire is something like triple the speed of usb.
it will charge, but you can’t transfer data with the firewire cable.
From the Apple website:
“Charging via USB to computer system or power adapter (sold separately)
Fast-charge time: about 1.5 hours (charges up to 80% of battery capacity)
Full-charge time: about 3 hours”
If your 1st gen adaptor has USB (as in the combo FW/USB cable), the USB cable portion will work, to be exact. A FireWire only cable will not.
Well, i use my firewire charger on a daily basis for all my iPods, also the newer ones.
