How often do you buy a new hairbrush?

Asked by JLeslie (65745points) April 12th, 2022 from iPhone

My brushes are many years old. I was in the supermarket a few days ago and saw the large display of brushes on the hair care aisle and thought about getting a new one. They aren’t very expensive. I didn’t buy one, but I considered it.

I can’t remember when mine is from. Probably 20+ years ago.

I’ve got a hairbrush my uncle gave me in 1956 or 1957.

Not often. I am using one I’ve had for at least 25 years. I keep buying new ones and keep not liking them. The one I’m using was in a box of loose brushes in a beauty supply shop. They were on sale for $2. It has really been a dandy, but alas, the bristles are starting to come out of it. Sad face.

I have had one from over a decade ago.

Only if I leave town and forget my brush, so like once every million years or so.

I got one that was recommended to me at the salon about 10 years ago; I have 2 combs from about 20 years ago.

I have a bunch and my daughter has a few. I have one in the car in an overnight bag that never leaves the car, and the others are in bins in the bathroom closet. If I lose one or something happens to one, I have the others as backup. Then I replace, so maybe every few years.

To me, buying a brush is not a big outlay of cash so if I saw ones that I like, I wouldn’t fret over the decision.

I don’t use a hair brush. I have combs I’ve been using for decades.
Every now and then I put them in the dishwasher to freshen them up.

I recently bought a package of about 20 combs of different styles and colors to give out to my grandkids as play toys. The combs were awful! There was sharp plastic flashing on the teeth along the parting line. No wonder they were almost free.
Rather than just tossing them in the trash I passed them over a flame from my Bernzomatic torch to melt the flash. (I don’t have a gas stove or I would have used that.) That process worked perfectly! The combs are all smooth and even the teeth have slightly rounded tips so they don’t scratch your scalp.

For myself, years.

For my kids, feels like every other week. I don’t know how our house has become a black hole for hair brushes.

Our house has a back hole that eats stuff we want and spits out that stuff when we don’t want it.
