I have never heard of Apple renting iPhones.

Ask google or bing, or better yet, ask apple.

There are rumors of a new subscription plan that will allow a customer to lease an iPhone.

I for one think it’s fucking stupid and am so sick of the “subscription economy” where we no longer own anything.

Subscription based devices will be the next phase for the manufacturer. I don’t blame Apple for jumping in on this. I personally don’t like subscription based rental on any hardware or Software that I choose to own. Everything seems to be moving towards fee based subscription models.
The Telco carriers have already been pushing a “rent based” plan for a few years. Free upgrade in 1 to two years but you don’t own your phone.
Some things like $1000 phones make sense as it gets more people in the game. I just think it is wrong on so many levels. Why do I need this in my life?

According to this this is TRUE!!! It seems that Apple has been successful doing this in the UK & they plan to try it in the US with the release of the iPhone 14. I’m an Android baby so I don’t think that I’d try it. At the same time, I bet that IF Apple is successful that ALL the androids will follow suit. It would be one of those “wait & see” things for me & HOW they handle the end of contract before I’d be interested. What will happen to ALL my personal info & contacts when the rental ends???

@RedDeerGuy1 what you thinking???

@LadyMarissa I was wondering if any minor damage from your iPhone would void the rental and turn into a purchase.

@RedDeerGuy1 Yesterday I was wondering what the “catch” was going to be…I think you just gave me the answer to my Q!!! It will also mean te end to the “cheap” phones being sold on the iternet/eBay. So, basically, they are going to rent you the phone for the SAME price as IF you bought it, but you keep it for 2 years & have to give it back to them…you won’t be able to sell it to recoup some of your money…but, IF you damage it, you’ll have to pay for it a 2nd time & THEY sell it for a cheaper price!!!

Can’t wait!!!
