Have you tried the Home 5G system yet?
Verizon & T-Mobile have come out with a home WiFi that is 5G at the connection. It’s supposed to be the answer to disconnecting from Spectrum WiFi. I know I’m not using the proper terminology…I’m still learning. Are you willing to enlighten me on how this system will work with my old wireless computer??? IF you’ve signed up with either of these systems, who did you choose & WHY??? I don’t trust either company to give me the “honest” answer to my questions!!!

I have 5G. I didn’t see a huge difference when I upgraded.
I do stream my “TV” now. I often have the TV on, and computer and cell phone and my husband can be zooming at the same time. We don’t have many glitches. Once in a blue moon a zoom might freeze for a second, very rare.
My internet is through Century Link.
No. I have good wifi, no need for 5g services
If it is truly “old” computer, it will not have the wireless speed for connecting to 5G. My wife’s laptop can’t connect to the WiFi 5G router, we have in the house. She connects at a slower speed to the same router.

Oh, that’s probably the case for my laptop, it’s probably not utilizing the 5G.
I’m in a unique position right now & trying to decide which is the best way for me to go. I had a fire at my house & in the process of doing the repairs they removed ALL the wiring for my WiFi & cable. So, although I had NO complaints for my WiFi, but it seems like it would be simpler for me to go with the 5G system. I don’t feel that I can trust Verizon or T-Mobile & I ALWAYS overthink before making a major change & this one is bugging me & I’m at a place where I need to make a decision & can’t decide which way to go!!!
I’m thinking of dropping my cable & using my Roku for any entertainment. I’ll need a system that can handle WiFi for a Roku, 2 computers, & 1 cell phone. I live alone , so I shouldn’t overload the syystem very often!!!
Carrier level 5G It is not ready to overtake the cable internet connection to the house at this point. Some areas of the country have fiber connection from the street which will never be topped by a 5G or Starlink connection.
5G at the carrier level Is more about wide coverage and not necessarily speed to the device unless you have access to mmWave 5G. 5G is trying to also solve the issue of coverage to areas that still can’t get internet. Yes, this is still a real problem for remote areas of the country where companies no longer were responsible for providing internet just because you wanted it. That was a thing for people who wanted phone service to the last mile back in the day.
It is still a balance of what speed do you need and what are you willing to pay.
Personally I am not a fan of any wireless including Bluetooth. Convenient yes, but quality and throughput, no.
There are zero datacenters that run their back end processing on wireless. Even wired computers on a network is collision based (Ethernet actually sucks).
5G speed in your house from your router is a different topic for those users who have older technology devices.
For older computers that only have a wired network card the best option is a wifi extender plugged in near it. Once joined to the wireless network, you can plug a single computer into it.
Many devices can only connect to wifi 2.4 band because that was all that was available at the time they were designed.
