Was it petty of me to want to kick this person from the game?

Asked by Cindy1302 (806points) April 24th, 2022

I play a game called killing floor 2. It’s a team based game where you fight against hordes of monsters. In the game you can close and open doors by pressing a button. It comes in handy when you’re running away from a boss because they have to stop and open the door, giving you time to run. I think a lot of people build a habit of closing doors behind them for that reason but a lot of them do it at the wrong time like in between rounds when there are no enemies around and when there is a team mate behind them who has to then stop and open the door. This person kept constantly closing the doors in front of me and I had to open eatch one. I only had to stop for a split second to press the open button but it was annoying. I was pretty close to kicking them but I didn’t. Am I being petty?

Where in the world do you play such a game?

I don’t know if I’d consider it to be petty, but it definitely sounds like you were on tilt and that’s usually a good time to take a break for a few minutes.

Whatever happened to chivalry…

@rebbel Chivalry doesn’t exist online, just varying levels of tolerance and patience.

Tell them to stop shutting doors when you’re about to go through them. Tell them that you will run with them one more time, and if you continue to have that problem with them, refuse to run with them anymore. If the problem is bad enough, you could block them, so they can’t contact you.

I would think it is just their style of play. Very petty.

If it’s a team and this person is sabotaging you, I’d warn them first then kick them off if it happens again. If you have the authority to do so, of course.

It’s probably just a habit they picked up while playing solo.

No. And you should have kicked them.

Not at all. I have been kicked from games for much less. I have kicked players from multiplayer matches for less. I do tend to PM a warning that they’re about to be kicked if I think it will help but it usually does not.
