Did I get scammed? (Details inside)

Asked by RedDeerGuy1 (24945points) April 28th, 2022

Three years ago I purchased a computer from Dell with a subscription to Microsoft Word for ~$9 a month. Last year I got a virus and had to reset my computer and lost Microsoft Word.

I recently purchased a permanent subscription to Microsoft Word for ~$100. It was with a code and Word works fine now.

I am still getting a ~$9 fee per month from Microsoft.

My credit card will not stop payment on my monthly subscription.

Where is my mistake? Is it the permanent subscription fake or the monthly subscription?

What should I do? I hope that this is a honest mistake?

It’s possible you may have to contact Dell to cancel the subscription.

How is Microsoft supposed to know that you had a virus that ruined a previous subscription?

@LostInParadise I think that they would know when I purchased a second subscription, from them? Was the ~$90 purchase agreement legit? They told me that I can purchase the Word subscription outright, and don’t need to pay a monthly fee anymore?

I’ve never paid a monthly fee for Word. Canada may be different.

Update I’ve given up trying to cancel my subscriptions. I will pay off my credit card, and cancel the whole card.
