What would be the best way to do dishes in a bathroom?

Asked by tinyfaery (44249points) May 20th, 2022

There is a normal bathroom sink and a stand up shower with a handheld spray thing.

What would be the most efficient way to wash what would be like a kitchen sink full of dishes?

I’ve though about getting a dishpan to do the washing and then rinsing in the shower but I was just wondering if someone had a better idea.

A dishpan sounds like the way to go. How are you drying them? If there’s room on the counter, you could use a dishrack on a rubber draining mat.

I would also seriously consider an investment in disposable paper plates and plastic utensils, depending on how long the motel stay is going to be. Is there a microwave?

I have so many, many questions…

I would probably do them in the sink with something like “this”:https://www.amazon.com/Libman-Dish-Sponge-Soap-Dispenser/dp/B002YLV3PY and then rinse and leave stand to dry.

The link isn’t working :(

I’m doing my dishes in the bathroom until my disposal comes in on Tuesday. I put a large pan in the tub and wash in that. Rinse in the tub faucet.

Unfortunately, there is no tub. I have figured out how the drying will work I’m just wondering if there is another way to wash.

Use the sink to wash and rinse. It’ll be a pain but you’ll figure it out.

Too bad that you don’t have a bathroom tub. That’s how I’d do it.
Get the biggest plastic tub that you can find.
Fill with hot soapy water.
Put in dirty dishes, silverware and pots.
Let soak. Let the soapy water do the work.
Use knee pads while washing.
Rinse with shower.
Set dishes to air dry or dry with towel.
EZ PZ!

Pro tip:

Try to avoid using the toilet.

@Dutchess_III has the best answer; it’s what I would do too.

@JLoon Damn. That was plan b.

Get a small 4’ long table that fits ½ in the shower. Tilt table slightly to allow water to drain back into the shower. Use two plastic tubs, wash with detergent in one, rinse in the other. Stand up or sit down.

She only has a walk-in shower. @kritiper

Plates bang too much in the sink and could potentially break.

I suppose I can get paper plates but it’s just so wasteful. I guess a dishpan it is.

I would order out all weekend or buy plenty of cold cuts and live-on sandwiches and microwaveable meals like lean cuisine. Then you can just throw it all out and the only thing you will need to wash is forks and spoons. You can even microwave hot dogs if you don’t want cold sandwiches and toast some waffles for breakfast and use paper towels if you don’t put syrup on them or paper plates. If you are a must have coffee person, its nothing to wash a mug in the sink.

So why don’t you have a kitchen sink @tinyfaery?

It seems plain that she is staying someplace with limited facilities. Possibly with no kitchen. If she’s lucky, there’s a fridge and microwave.

I’m guessing also that it’s temporary and that there’s good reason not to acquire too much stuff.

@tinyfaery, if I were staying in a limited environment and needing to wash dishes, I’d get a medium-size plastic storage box with a lid, making it useful for other things as well as dishes, and also being something you can if necessary close up with dishes in it.

I don’t think there is a best way to do dishes in the bathroom. If you really have no kitchen sink I might wash them outside, with a hose somehow.

If in a hotel type setting with a big vanity (or at a house with a vanity), I’d wash them in the bathroom sink and dry by placing them on a towel on the vanity. If it’s a pedestal sink, I’d wash them in the sink and dry them on a towel on the floor either in the bedroom or in the shower/bathtub. The bathtub is not ideal because when you are going to take a shower, you have to move the dishes out of there, so I’d say if it’s a pedestal sink, best bet is wash them in the sink and dry on a towel in the bedroom.

I used a dishpan and then rinsed in the shower. I just dried them the old fashioned way-with a towel.

Thanks all!

I knew you’d figure it out!
