Also how does one do it? How much is one’s long hair worth?

Yes – I got the answer : It depends.
It can be complicated by what the buyers want & why. Most extension/wig makers want at least 10 inches. Prices at that length are generally in the $200 – $400 range depending on color, quality etc.
I’ve never had short hair and let it grow because that’s what it does. So it’s long long (51 in.), and gets attention in public along with bringing in some occaisional modeling work. And there are always questions about cutting & selling. Last offer was over $2500, but not ready yet.
I’ve learned there’s a lot of strangeness to the hair biz though. Lots of demand because of celebrities using extensions to glam their look, frequent exploitatation of poorer women who are usually the “producers”, and a special market made up of fetish buyers who their own…needs.
At least 10 inches, and they want virgin hair – no dyes, treatments, bleaches, etc.
I don’t know about selling it, but to donate to Locks of Love I think that it needs to be 12 inches long, Locks accepts the donations & then makes wigs for people who have cancer & losing all their hair from their treatment.
