They are not good for either, some flip phone will be obsolete or are already obsolete because the were 3G.
But I see a lot of people using them for calling and for internet, wi-fi.
The newest flip phones work very well with internet and wifi.

Flip phone cannot browse the internet; you can text and talk. @Hawaii_Jake example is a high end smartphone.
One can browse the internet on old school flip phones. I know from having used it.
I have a newer flip phone and yes it can browse the net, and they still make brand new flip phones to this day,not every one wants a damn smart phone.
The only draw back is they don’t have as detailed screen that a smart phone has.
@SQUEEKY2 If it can browse the internet, it is a “damned” smart phone!
Android lover here. Ha!
But two people I know refuse to upgrade and can’t use internet and one cant see pictures.
@SQUEEKY2 Correct.
By the way people think you can’t zoom because zooming is done by touching the screen but there is a button for zooming in or zooming out.
What does “detailed screen” mean?
@KNOWITALL “can’t use internet” because of the phone, or they are not internet literate?
The camera on my flip zooms in and out as well.
@Chefl I’m not positive for the male but the female is computer literate and uses her ipad. I think its the old phones.
1) why isn’t the exact model on the phone, on the phone itself, why only the brand name?
2)Why isn’t there an “About” (or an icon for it) anywhere on the phone, or on the screenas you open it, among the all the other icons?
3) Why would ”“Settings be not on the first part of the screen? On smartphones you have to scroll down, on flip phones it’s after “Ok” for thr next page that you find “Settings”. I would think it’s the first thing you do.
Simple question for @chefl, do you not like smart phones?
Hinges break. Simple mechanics.
@KNOWITALL Ok.
I guess I’m lazy I just go to the bottom of the box here and click from the list of people on the thread, if I’m addressing someone
@chefl Some people always reply or @All.
@KNOWITALL yes but if I’m asking one person I need them to find my Q immediately and if I get a response I want to find it immediately. (we have to whisper, off topic)
@Hawaii_Jake I don’t know if I don’t like them or if they I don’t need them as much as some people do.
@chefl I understand. Thank you.
I just gave GAs.
@All, Re. see my post earlier permalink please read
Why isn’t there an “About” (or an icon for it) anywhere in the phone, not on and why isn’t the model also not on the phone (i.e why just the brand name?), whatever else it applies to.
They are more compact and fit in your pocket better. Or your bra.
I know some older people, senior citizens or elderly, who prefer flip phones. They want mobile telephones for making and receiving calls, without the additional features of smartphones. They also prefer mechanical buttons, which are easier to see and use than virtual keyboards.
Also, flip phones prevent butt-dialing. That’s a good thing for anyone at any age!
@Love_my_doggie Now you make me feel old ,those are the exact reasons I want a flip over a smart.plus I don’t have to charge the damn thing every single day.
@janbb Not so. Basic flip phones have had internet access for years. I will never carry around a big block of a thing, aka smartphone.

I have a the Lively Flip, AKA the Jitterbug Flip 2. Flip phone are great for ones that don’t care to browse the internet and use apps, but just to call out and send simple texts and pics. I don’t like to have all the stuff attached to me while in touch. I go online with a PC or laptop usually. Most flip phones are now obsolete with the upgrade to 5G only, but Lively still has there’s which is more up to date.
@nightwolf5 What is the word you meant “But Lively still has….which is more upto date.” What does it have?
Actually I meant their’s not there’s. But this is the exact phone I have. It has an FM Radio, and bigger button pad. Voice to text and Alexa, which you can ask it most anything. It’s easier to use and more advanced than most flip phones.

@nightwolf5 Even to those who do care about browsing the internet, there is internet browsing on flip phones, and I don’t mean with just the latest ones.
Well yes, I know. My last Verizon flip phone had a small slow browser. Hard to use but there, The one I gave the link to does not have an internet browser at all though.
There is no Google on it?
No, just Alexa. If you go the link it lists it’s features.
I’m not intending to buy it or any other kind. just curious.
