As a society, are we becoming anti-social?

Asked by SQUEEKY2 (23425points) June 7th, 2022

We don’t seem to want to talk to anyone these days, it’s text, text, text.
It is a full pain in the ass to talk to a real person at most businesses all you get is follow the prompts, and it’s at least a half hour if your lucky to actually talk to a person.
People claim it’s easier, is it really?
Is all this making us a bit anti-social?

Yep. Modern technology has not only enabled but encouraged people to withdraw from others. They believe that sending some thoughts out on the computer or via text are good enough.

I find it really annoying when I call someplace, like a doctor’s office, and I get the voice that says “If this is a medical emergency, please hang up and dial 9–1-1. If you are calling to make an appointment, please press 1. If this is a doctor or hospital, please press 2. etc.” So annoying. I experienced it this week when making hotel reservations. “If you are calling to make a new reservation, please press 1. For changes to existing reservations, please press 2.” Then they ask you if you’re a member of their rewards program, and they want you to put that info in. Especially annoying when calling the cable company and there are so many choices. All of it is so time consuming and annoying.
