So I watched the ‘BLM’ riots and was upset by the magnitude of violence. Same here.
The thing’s that stood out most were that those couldn’t be MY people. Proud Americans don’t cover their faces trying to hide their identity.
I liked Trump. I don’t think he’s quite sane after his own kids said they tried to stop him.
That a great many right wingers are thinking ,HEY it was no big deal.
When I heard the Don Fathers speech it did indeed sound very much like he was inciting a riot ,but not to a lot a right wingers all they heard was let’s march peacefully and patriotically to the capital.
The mob looked like it was out for blood, smashing windows, throwing barricades ,using flagpoles as weapons.
But not to a lot of right wingers oh no it was peaceful, and most of them were carrying kittens.
2 very different out looks,I am going to put my trust in the videos that I saw,THAT were taken by the rioters, and I saw a great deal of violence, and the people that commited that violence I hope spend many years behind bars.
@KNOWITALL It’s fascinating how suddenly all those people can breathe through masks on Jan 6, but no other day. I know you were always cautious regarding covid, so I’m sure it strikes you as it does me.
Are you aware that over 100 people were arrested and convicted during riots that happened during the BLM protests? Many sentences were fairly long, but off course some were too light. That’s always going to happen. A lot of people seem to think the rioters during the BLM time frame were just let go with no punishment. That’s not true.
Just throwing it out there. Twitter banned Trump so fast, on January 6th, that he didn’t have the means to call off the protesters when they became rioters short of attending in person. By that time it was too late.
Trump tweeted telling the rioters to go home. He still told them the election was stolen, so it was double-speak as usual, but he did tweet telling them to leave.
@RedDeerGuy1 Trump was banned from Twitter two days after the insurrection.
@RedDeerGuy1 He could have gone on the news asking them to back off. Instead, he put out a tweet telling them that Mike Pence was a traitor. One of the Proud Boys read that tweet verbatim & that’s when the chant “Hang Mike Pence” erupted throughout the crowd. IF he could incite the crowd to murder our Vice President, he could have told them to GO HOME!!! Instead, he went on TV to praise the work that the rioters had done!!!
I can’t believe there are still Trumpers! How idiotic does one have to be to continue to believe his BS??
Oh NO, @kritiper it’s the fake news that is BS ,Trump is all truth and gospel .
I still can’t believe democracy survived J6, we got lucky.
Don’t worry @WhyNow if the Rep/cons take the midterms you will lose it yet.
@kritiper They aren’t watching or reading all sides of the information out there about what Trump did and does.
They want to believe in him so they do. Nothing else matters. They believe he is good for the country, good for Christianity, that’s all they need is their belief.
Anybody else remember that back when, common wisdom was that there was no real difference betweeen the two parties—that all the mainstream candidates were essentially moderates?
Back then, Republicans like Arizona’s Rusty Bowers—straightforward, honorable, conscientious, and committed—were the high end of the norm in both parties. (Go watch him on day 4 if you haven’t heard him.) Now it’s like you want to touch him to see if he’s real or a hologram.
I wonder if those Trumpists who call themselves Republicans today recognize the authenticity of a man like Bowers and secretly would like to emulate him, or if they are by now so far corrupted and compromised that they even see someone like him as the enemy.
@Jeruba they see him as the enemy the same way they see Liz Cheney as the enemy. I think Trump helped release the devil that always existed in them. Power corrupts. This is why we need to put a limit on how long they can serve. I say 10 years tops for House and 2 terms for Senators. And if they are going from congress to senate then can only then serve a total of 4 for rep and 8 for senate. So the most any of them can serve is 12 years.
@Jeruba I felt terrible for Bowers. That poor man and his family were harassed, abused, and terrorized. His gravely ill daughter, who was in his home when radical lunatics were being threatening outside of the door, died shortly after that from what I understand.
Did you notice when Bowers was asked if he would vote again for Trump, Bowers said yes.
