Has 988 been implemented in your area yet?

Asked by LadyMarissa (16302points) July 20th, 2022

Starting in 2020, it appears that our government has been quietly working on a mental health assistance line. The Substance Abuse Mental Health Services Administration is in the process of setting up an emergency number similar to 911 for crimes. In the case of mental health, IF you are feeling suicidal, you no longer need to look up the number of the Suicide Prevention Hotline. You only need to pick up your phone & dial 988 where you are connected with the Suicide Prevention Hotline so you can talk to someone who can get you help. Also, IF your family is fearing for your life, they can dial 988 for assistance. Cops are not dispatched to the location leaving them available for the ongoing crimes. A mental health professional will be showing up at your door to assist the situation.

I hadn’t heard about this service until recently. Maybe it’s because it was still being created & maybe it’s because they are getting close to going live. Regardless, has 988 made it to your area yet?

Update 988 is here. I called them because I had a panic attack, and they sluffed me off to another number as It wasn’t a crisis. The number they gave me didn’t work.

@RedDeerGuy1 I’m sorry you had a panic attack. I’m also sorry you didn’t get help.
