Do you ever watch YouTube videos that are so over your head that you hope something will sink in?

I try to learn a lot of stuff so I watch videos that talk about quantum mechanics, physics, nuclear fusion, Oceanic research, and junk that I don’t have a clue about. Sometimes it helps a little but I’m probably more confused by the end of the video. I’ll be thinking “What the heck did I just watch?”
Then I’ll just watch a music video and chill or go out.

Even IF you don’t totally understand everything that’s being said, I feel that at least you’ll be aware that there’s that it’s there & you’re still absorbing some knowledge that could crop up when you need it most!!!
I don’t watch heavy videos. I like music videos and historical items. The only thing that gets me sometimes are vids that take twenty minutes to get to the point. You know what I mean. “Camper mauled by wild cat!” Joe was camping at Yellowstone. He has been other places but didn’t care for them as much. Then an hour later, “Joe thought the beans were good, needed some salt though.“And I’m yelling, get to the point you boring monotone ass clown!
@Nomore_Tantrums LOL!!!!! I wish I could post a laughing gif! This has just killed me! I’m still laughing. :D “Joe thought the beans were good, needed some salt though. OMG!! HAHAHA
I’ve done a LOT of repairs as well as fixing my lawnmower from watching youtube. I’ve also discovered some delicious meals off of youtube as well!!! I’ve been able to make some minor repairs to my computer which beats buying a new one!!!
@RayaHope Glad that gave you a chuckle. : ) But seriously videos like that infuriate me. I want to see the guy fend off the wildcat, I don’t care about his frikkin beans. Eat the damn things and shut up.
@Nomore_Tantrums & @RayaHope I know, right?! “Shortly after Joe finished his unsatisfying beans he was attacked by a Mountain Lion.” >8^O
@Nomore_Tantrums Oh stop it! I just stopped laughing and you go and get me started again.LOL!! You are slaying me tonight. You should do stand up. I can hardly type.
@smudges OH THANK GOD! Maybe it will now end. LOL!! I haven’t laughed this hard in forever. Oh, my sides are hurting…
A laugh is good for the soul sometimes. And a boring ass video is good for counting sheep. I suspect Joe is STILL out there eating his grub. Go figure. He needs a more animated narrator though.
@Nomore_Tantrums dammit… Have you ever laughed so hard you start yawning? Now I can’t stop laughing AND yawning… I got to leave this thread before I fall over.
Nobody understands quantum mechanics. It is now the most tested most used
and boosts us right into future. We use it but don’t know how it works.
You tube is the zamboni of web sites to me.
@WhyNow You mean YouTube is good at resurfacing ice? I think that is what a Zamboni does.
You folks are over my head here. I don’t even know what a Zamboni is. Guess I’ll have time to look it up in Encyclopedia Britannica while I’m waiting to see people get attacked by wildcats. If they aren’t busy eating beans or picking flowers. Yawn…
@Nomore_Tantrums {{shaking my fist}} Please I don’t want to have to change my (you know) again.. lol
Ok I’ll save the rest for tommorow. ; ) @RayaHope
Yes. Sometimes it helps to watch different videos on the same topic. Some are better at communicating ideas than others, and do so at a level that’s more understandable.
@Kropotkin that’s a wonderful idea. I have found a few that seems too dumb things down far enough so I can even understand them (mostly)
Not so much with YouTube specifically, but it happens to me with books, articles, and even podcasts (especially those that discuss philosophy). I consider myself well-versed in linguistics, but I recently read a highly technical paper on applicatives and I found after a point that I had understood nothing in the preceding few paragraphs. In that case it’s time for a break. Generally if I come back to it later, I can absorb it better (and no use stressing over not understanding, because that just ensures failure).
I happened on a YouTube vid that showed me how to sharpen nail clippers!
So I did it and it works! I was so excited.
Until I showed my sister and she said “I see a Nobel prize in your future”
@Demosthenes Great answer! I have done this a couple of times and it does work, I was surprised just how much better I understood something if I walked away from it and came back later.
@WhyNow lol, your sister was being sarcastic. Wait until she breaks a nail and then gloat! :)
I fixed my lawn mower today by watching several youtube vids!!! The first one I watched was miles over my head but I just kept watching & he eventually did something I could understand…NOT his words, but what his hands were doing. After him, I flipped over to another & this guy explained it like I was a 2nd grader. Made MORE sense. When all was said & done, the guy who was talking over my head showed me the EXACT thing that I needed to know to fix the problem…PLUS I saved about $300 & I reaped the satisfaction of fixing it myself!!! :) :) :)
@LadyMarissa Oh happy day YouTube comes through! Good for you :) The guys that talk to me like a 2nd grader make me a little aggravated but I do understand much better.
I’d rather be aggravated than ignorant!!! ;^]
Regardless, my mower is repaired & my lawn is trimmed to perfection!!!
So tell us Lady M…
Your lawn mower ran out of gas.
We won’t tell, promise!
@WhyNow Was that from a cantina in Mexico?
