Not really a chess game, per se, but try Piers Anthony’s Incarnations of Immortality series. Throughout the series, you are dealing with ghosts, angels, demons, time travelers show up as do extraterrestrials as well as the incarnations. And all for the control of Earth and all the souls on it.
