How well liked is England's new king?

Asked by LostInParadise (32182points) September 9th, 2022

There are a lot of people who resent his treatment of Diana. Then there is the whole fox hunting mess. To me he comes across as the epitome of dorkiness. Charles III is not the most fortuitous name choice. Charles I is the only British king to be executed, and his son Charles II had a hard time as well. Link

I’m NOT a fan of Charles & I had hoped the Queen would skip him for William. I’ve NEVER liked Charles…even before his mistreatment of Diana!!! He was always an uppity prick!!!

@LadyMarissa The Queen doesn’t have a choice in the matter.

I still think that either Charles or Camilla had a hand in Diana’s death.

@elbanditoroso
Reminds me of this classic joke:
What do you get when you cross the Queen and Prince Philip?
Killed in a tunnel!

She’s a hard act to follow.
Charles is kind of a “caretaker” keeping the throne warm for William…20yrs max.

elbanditoroso's avatar

@eyesoreu Less. I don’t think he lasts more than 10.

They live forever, 74 as we type, 15/20yrs for the smart money.

The Queen lived to be 96, Philip to 99 & only 2 months shy of 100…Charles is only 72, so it’s possible another 25 years or so. I just hope he makes a better King than I’m giving him credit!!!

I would say that he is misunderstood .

‘If one looks at his strict upbringing with little affection if any as he had little interaction with his parents since an early age.

He probably hates the whole establishment.

I remember watching a documentary years ago about his life and he or the reporter stated that Charles would rather live out his life happily on his estate where he is engaged in climate change, organic farming , agriculture and is very sociable within that community of interests.
He apparently had started an organic farm community in 1985.

Look up online about his organic farm community, if anyone is interested.

He tries to distance himself with the Monarchy unless pressed to do so as in the present.

I suspect that he would give up the throne in a short time to his older son as William matures into it.
( training engagements to prepare him , plus his children to father in the meantime).

@Inspired_2write I agree with most of what you have said. From what I read of him before the whole Diana/Camilla/The Crown business, he was very involved with organic farming, the environment and architectural preservation. Whether or not he wants to be king, I don’t think anyone knows. I had had the impression from something that he’s been waiting a long time to be king.

Personally, I don’t have a great need to decide whether or not I like him since I have no real basis to judge.

It seems that across the pond most seem to think he should pass to William, at his age. And I saw a lot of negative comments about him and his former mistress/wife being very unliked.
He is the oldest king in history at 73, but I imagine he’d like to be on the throne a bit after all these years.

Back when Diana died & he was still cavorting with his mistress, the Queen threatened to pass over him & make William the King. I always liked William, but I keep hearing that he’s beginning to act like his father which I don’t consider a good thing!!!

Since I don’t live in the UK, I guess I really don’t need to stress over their problem!!! We’ve got our own worries here in the good ol’ USA!!!

I have noticed that the press is doing their damnedest to change the narrative now that Charles has become King.

I’m not an expert on Charles by any means, but what I have seen and read of his ecological and socio-political opinions (q.v. @Inspired_2write ‘s answer), I’ve liked.

On the news, they said Charles has been preparing his whole life for this role, and likely has a lot of changes he’d like to make, and plans.

He’s also King of Canada, if I’m not mistaken.

Give the guy a chance. Let’s not jump to conclusions. The court of public opinion has been wrong before, right or wrong. Look at Trump.

LadyMarissa's avatar

Sorry @Nomore_Tantrums, I AVOID looking at Charles; but, I’d rather look at him than the pumpkin president!!! Personally, I have very low expectations for Charles with high hopes that he’ll prove me wrong!!!

Nomore_Tantrums's avatar

We shall see. Maybe he’ll surprise us all. @LadyMarissa

^^ I hope he does as I hope the royal subjects get the King they deserve. He has big shoes to fill although she had tiny little feet!!!
