What did you learn today?
I just learned that the famous TV series “The Waltons” was actually based on Earl Hamner Jr autobiography.
I find that it’s an inspiration for writing one’s autobiography and possibly resulting in a movie or TV series to be created from it.

I learned that Vivian Leigh was bipolar
I learned a new star reduction technique using pixelmath.
@Caravanfan
Could you explain what that means or what it is?
I tried to animate the opacity of an object in 3ds Max and Vray.
I wasted hours on trying to animate the texmap opacity, the rgb output values, nothing worked. It just popped into existence at the middle of the time segment.
Until it just hit me that the opacity mode of the material was still set to clip instead of normal or stochastic.
^ May I worship at your feet?
@ragingloli As usual, you’re thinking 20 feet over my head!!! So, after @Caravanfan explains his knowledge for today, would you be so polite as to fill us in on WTF you’re telling us!!!
^ That was the idea! To prove to us yotzes that he is a superior intellect.
I do not feel the need to prove the blatantly obvious.

Here is a site that explains @Caravanfan‘s comment
He neglected to state that it was an actual Star image ( Astromey) and he used Pixrlmath to reduce it in a picture and or video.

I learned today is FRIDAY and no more school….till next week.
@Inspired_2write and @WhyNow
The short answer is that it’s a technique to reduce the size of stars in astrophotographs.
@Inspired_2write Sort of. Yes, that is one of the sources that I used. Okay, I’ll give a longer answer.
In astrophotography images come off the camera very dark, which makes sense since astronomical objects (except bright ones like planets, moon, sun, etc) are very dim. In order to bring them out you need to do “stretches” of the data, meaning that you make the dim bits visible. The problem is that the stars are bright and when you stretch the dim nebula, the pesky stars become much brighter and bloated. Much of astrophotography is trying to control the stars and there are several techniques for doing so. The one linked to above is one of the latest techniques and that’s what I learned.
I learned about using IBM Watson Studio for data mining, cleansing and setting up AI models, as well as monitoring them for drift and fairness in the real world.
I think I finally learned to stop being so hard on myself. A very GOOD friend has convinced me that I am WORTH it and I have to be much better at being ..ME! I love her for mentoring me and believing in my journey to do GREAT things in life! (big heart emoji) :)
I learned what pokeweed is.
I learned that if you dunk an outboard motor to the bottom of a lake and somehow get it out, you can bring it back to life if you act fast.
That two Tim Horton’s chocolate chip cookies cost as much as a grocery store container of chips-a-hoy cookies and is worth it.
I learned that I enjoy sleeping in on a “Nowhere to go and Got All Day to Get There Day.” : )
@RedDeerGuy1 Have you tried taking a Chip Ahoy & putting it in a microwave for 5–10 seconds. It tastes likes it just came out of the oven but you need to eat it fast or it gets too hard!!! I don’t eat them often, but they are delicious when I do!!! WHY eat only 2 cookies when you can easily eat 10??? for the same price!!! ;-}
@Nomore_Tantrums Aren’t those days just G LORIOUS??? :-)
@Caravanfan
Wow! Thanks for that fascinating link showing the tutorial.
I, like many others, thought that it would be easy to photograph with the right telescope with a camera attached?
How wrong was I !
What a fascinating hobby , I thank you for showing us that process.
I learned how to carve the wooden foot of a puppet so it can walk more realistically.
@LadyMarissa they are indeed. To few and far between these days though.
@Nomore_Tantrums They wouldn’t be so much fun IF you could do them everyday!!! ¯\₍⸍⸌̣ʷ̣̫⸍̣⸌₎/¯
A 7yo pointed out that the colors in the second rainbow in a double rainbow are reverse.
I felt a bit silly that I hadn’t noticed that before. Probably too busy gesticulating wildly about a double rainbow. Haha
@gorillapaws Haha…yes! I thought of this video yesterday. :P
@raum Would you be so kind as to ask that 7 y/o what happens when there’s a 3rd rainbow???
I learned that if I make smaller batches of microwaved natchos and cheese that the cheese reaches more of the natchos.
I just learned about this paradox involving an infinite number of ping pong balls.
I learned a new word the other day. That is way too fitting for me.
Tidoptimist. It’s a Swedish word for a person who’s habitually late because they think they have more time than they do.
