Is it wrong for a young lady to fall in LOVE with Pearl Jam?

Asked by RayaHope (7448points) September 24th, 2022

I can’t stop listening to Pearl Jam even though they are an old band. The more I read about them the more I like them. I never really listened to their music much until recently. Eddie Vedder’s vocals are hypnotizing wow!

Yes, you must be a bad person! Lol. Actually, of course it isn’t; it’s always great to fall in love with music, new or old,

gorillapaws's avatar

Not at all. Their music is awesome, they’re good people who do a lot of philanthropy, plus they’re still touring so you have a chance to see them live one day if you wanted. My sister and brother-in-law, as well as my cousin and her husband go to their shows often.

What would be the best song of theirs to shuffle-dance to?

That came out when I was you’re age. There are a lot of gems from that era if you like Pearl Jam. When it comes to music it’s important to explore. Find things you like from different eras, stuff you may not have heard of and keep an open mind. Nothing wrong with listening to something old or what’s not popular or on the radio right now.

chyna's avatar

No it’s not wrong. I’m in love with Queen, even though they are really old.

RayaHope's avatar

@gorillapaws Oh, I don’t know if the beat is fast enough. lol I’ll keep listening and see if I find one :)

@chyna ” I’m in love with Queen, even though they are really old.”

One of the greats moments in music. That crowd was just mesmerized… Magic.

Freddie Mercury had it!

I saw an old man today wearing a shirt that read I may be old, but I got to experience ALL the cool bands in their prime!!! :-}

@RayaHope I find it cute that all us old fogies are wearing off on you!!! Hang around for a while & you’ll fall in love with some of the GREATEST music ever imagined!!! Do you ever listen to Queen??? Their music was so diversified that I’m positive that there’d be something in their catalog that you could dance to. They did everything from Jazz to Opera & everything in between…most of which required booty shaking in one form or another!!! LoL

RayaHope's avatar

@LadyMarissa LOL!!! I haven’t heard them (I think?) but I’ll look them up too. I think you guys are rubbing off on me mostly good but I couple of shockers too like lolli, she freaks me out. I know to NOT click on her links, but darn if I don’t go and do it anyway. I’m too darn curious I guess…

filmfann's avatar

Well, at least it isn’t Nickelback.

SavoirFaire's avatar

I think most people enjoy music from a variety of time periods. When I was your age, I was listening to grunge bands like Pearl Jam and Nirvana (the music of my generation) as well as bands like the Beatles and the Doors (the music of my parents’ generation). And since I also grew up in a musical family, there was a lot of jazz and classical music all around me as well. Nothing wrong with having broad musical tastes.

Just be careful that it doesn’t affect your personal relationships. ~

cookieman's avatar

Not at all. There’s lots of amazing and talented, “old” bands and singers — including Pearl Jam.

I hope you fall in love with many of them.

LadyMarissa's avatar

@RayaHope Clicking on one of Loli’s links means that you feel that you ARE ready to be shocked…until it opens & you realize that you were just fooling yourself!!! ;-] @SavoirFaire is right & you might want to check out The Doors!!! There was a TON of good music back in the good old days & it will keep you busy for a while, while in the discovery phase!!!

@filmfann What’s wrong with Nickelback??? Admittedly not one of my faves…yet every now & then they nail it!!! I LOVE music & I try to NOT discriminate. I’ve listened to a LOT of crap in my days looking for that one gem!!!

RayaHope's avatar

@SavoirFaire LOL!! That was hilarious:D He is(was) really good-looking and I LOVE his voice!
@LadyMarissa There is so much music I never even thought about listening to, I don’t know how to hear all of this stuff.

RedDeerGuy1's avatar

@RayaHope I am hearing Pearl Jam for the first time. I will get back to you in a hour; As I am listening to the greatest hits on YouTube. So far its good.

Thanks for the idea.

RayaHope's avatar

@RedDeerGuy1 Glad to help, I wouldn’t of even really known about them if it wasn’t for some nice people here at fluther :)

LadyMarissa's avatar

@RayaHope Good set of headphone, youtube, & my cell will usually get me through the initial listen until I can determine what I like best!!! I also have Amazon Prime Music which comes in handy when I really want to immerse myself in what I chose to followup on.

RayaHope's avatar

@LadyMarissa When I go walking around my neighborhood (mostly with someone) sometimes by myself as long as I don’t go too far. I have headphones and always listen to music, it makes my walks go so much better. In fact I don’t think I ever seized while listening to music.

Music calms the savage beast!!! :-)

Everyone picks on Nickleback.

Nomore_Tantrums's avatar

Careful there @RayaHope, hang out here too long and you’ll be needing a rocking chair and Social Security before you turn 21. : )

Oh, here’s another thing about Pearl Jam that I think is pretty cool. They have a pretty famous song called “Daughter,” and at some point in their live shows they started adding an extra “It’s ok” refrain with the audience. Then they started to do the esta bien variant for audiences in Latin America. And here’s a crowd’s eye view/reaction to realizing they’re hearing an American rock band singing in their native tongue from the same concert in Argentina. I can’t think of many bands who would do that.

@chyna “Everyone picks on Nickleback.”

They kinda earned it though:

@RayaHope Thanks. The music helped me pass the time. I appreciate it.

I like grape jam so I suppose it’s possible…

Sounds like you’re on a slippery slope – sliding into blues, jazz, classical, and… show tunes :

No. There are many things she might do as a result of it that may be considered wrong, and more likely stupid. You will not control how you feel about someone but you must control your resultant actions.

RayaHope's avatar

@Nomore_Tantrums (in an old voice) “What was that sonny?” lol!
@JLoon Show tunes…yikes!! Oh, your avatar…LOL!!
@SnipSnip Deep, I’m pretty good at stupid.

@RayaHope I am listening to AC DC for the first time on YouTube. Will Update from the greatest hits. Hopefully my computer will not crash again. : )

RayaHope's avatar

@RedDeerGuy1 Keep me updated :)

RedDeerGuy1's avatar

@RayaHope Update Music was ok. I didn’t learn anything about life. Again, helped me pass the time.

RayaHope's avatar

That’s the best part of music, passing the time in a delightful way :)

RedDeerGuy1's avatar

@RayaHope I did learn something about life, from you. Thanks, I will try listening to music next time when I have a panic attack.

RayaHope's avatar

@RedDeerGuy1 Oh stop you’ll make my eyes water..(((HUGS)))

RedDeerGuy1's avatar

@RayaHope I am listening Gun N Roses for the first time. They sure like to use the F-word. No panic attack, just have free time.

RedDeerGuy1's avatar

@RayaHope Was ok. Am going back to sleep now.

Nomore_Tantrums's avatar

On a more serious note, what’s wrong with that anyway? In my day, I don’t know how many times I’d be hanging out with some with some girl or other and they’d have pictures of some rock star pinned a wall in their room and be telling me how much they love Paul of the Beatles or Davey Jones of the Monkees, or whatever. No big whoop. Hell I had a crush on at least two actresses myself, Susan Hayward and later, Sophia Loren. People do that. Times have changed but not THAT much. My wife enjoys country music to a degree and she always had a thing for George Straight. I took her and one of her friends out to one of his concerts one time, and they led me million miles out of the way to get back to our truck. I couldn’t figure it out, thought they were lost. We went out an exit and low and behold there was George going in to his trailer. They started yelling and waving like a couple of Jr. High girls. Embarrassed the shit out of me the way they were acting, but he just smiles and waved and said, Have a good evening ladies! I thought they were going to swoon just because the guy had acknowledged them. LOL

I guess I am a polyamorous music lover.

It is wonderful to fall in love with music and a band or a genre.
I saw Pearl Jam at the 2nd Lollapalooza in 92 and was hooked. In my day, I traveled to Rio to see Pearl Jam.
That doesn’t stop me from having many loves over many years. Enjoy!

LadyMarissa's avatar

I tend to love whatever music I’m listening to at the time & I LOVE whoever is singing it!!! Guess you could say that I’m fickle!!!

RayaHope's avatar

^^ You know I had to look up what “fickle” means, wow I should have known that since I’m the same way. lol

LadyMarissa's avatar

So I helped you learn something new today!!! ;-}
