If you went to a restaurant at lunch time, and the host handed you a regular menu but not the lunch specials menu, would you think of that as deceptive?

Yesterday we were in NYC and we went to a restaurant for lunch. It was lunch time. The host handed us each a regular menu. When the waiter came over to see if we had any questions, I asked “do you have a lunch specials menu?” and he said “oh yes” and he brought it over. Obviously the prices on the lunch specials menu were much less than the regular menu.
I have had that happen previously, not at that restaurant (as yesterday was the first time we were ever there).

I would ask for the lunch specials menu and forget it.
Was the food good?
@Hawaii_Jake: The food was really good. I wish I lived closer, I would go there more often. It was a Chinese restaurant. Lunch specials were $8.25. We had leftovers and we took them to go, and carried them around all day.
I’ve been to NYC many times, but for some unknown reason, I’ve never eaten Chinese food there. I think it must be because there are so many options.
Was the restaurant in Chinatown?
@Hawaii_Jake: Yes, right in the heart of Chinatown. That’s where we get the best Chinese food and for the best price. This was on Elizabeth Street.
Not deceptive. Probably an oversight.
CHill out, not everything in the world is malicious.
@elbanditoroso I’m one who usually gives people the benefit of the doubt, and doesn’t assume malice. However, with this, since it’s a financial transaction, I was thinking ulterior motive.
I remember being able to eat lunch at a Chinese restaurant for $4 back in the 90s in San Francisco. Happy sigh.
@Hawaii_Jake: NYC had those deals too. Sooo good! The real thing, not fancy, just genuine.
Geez. That was 30 years ago.
@Hawaii_Jake: In NYC, there was a place on Mott and Hester, Wong Kee. So good. These are the places with ducks hanging on hooks in the windows.
I did not even know there was such a thing as a separate “lunch menu”.
No. I would assume it was a mistake and ask for it.
I would assume they forgot and give them the benefit of the doubt.
Most likely I would assume it was a mistake, but I am not opposed to thinking that it might be done on purpose. It would depend on how they reacted when I asked for the lunch menu.
More often I have the opposite problem of wanting something from the regular menu and I was only given the lunch menu. I have to ask if they can make a dinner item for lunch.
Common tactic. Always ask for the lunch menu even at 3pm. Ask when the lunch menu time expires.
