Have you heard today is National Coming Out Day in the US?

Asked by Hawaii_Jake (37748points) October 11th, 2022

It’s a day we gently encourage LGBTQ+ people to come out of the closet as long as it’s safe to do so. We don’t want anyone to jeopardize their safety.

Father Nathan Monk explains it better:

“Someone asked me what National Coming Out Day is all about, and I figured many of you might not know either. It is a special day once a year hosted by Leslie Jordan. Basically, if Dolly Parton sees her shadow, we move the gay agenda up by six weeks and finally Jonathan Van Ness will ascend as our lord and savior. Then all of the straights will stand judgment on the throne of RuPaul. With special guest appearances by Cher.”

If you’re looking for a safe person to come out to, I’m one of many.

I have not heard of this until now and I love it! That quote is so funny even though I don’t totally understand it.

No, thank you for sharing. I try to be a safe person. My best friend came out to me a decade or so ago, and I still remember the moment very well. Trusting someone with a secret like that can be a gift to them. I felt honoured that he would choose me, and I feel deeply grateful that he is accepted and safe to be himself.

For anyone observing it, may your friends and family love and support you. You don’t need to change. People can love you, exactly as you are.

I have heard of it, yes. I first came out to my two best friends on October 19, 2009, so October has always been a “coming out” time of year for me.

I didn’t know that.

To anyone who reads this who has difficulty being genuine…you’re worthy of love and respect. So many people are behind your cause! I’m a straight female, and I look forward to the day when there’s no fear or negativity involved in being whoever you are – out loud and proudā£

I know that I am probably not actually straight but I still say I am to avoid being told I am just looking for attention.

I’ve heard of it, yes

I still struggle with the idea that not every woman finds other women attractive the way I do but I’ll keep being in denial and tell myself “nah, every woman does that”

@SergeantQueen Although I’m hetero, I think I could be, at the very least, bi if the right person came along. I think women are beautiful and am attracted to them in a fantasy-type of way.
