Do you put your hand over your mouth after you scream?

Asked by SQUEEKY2 (23424points) October 15th, 2022

I have been watching prank videos on You Tube, and I would say about 95% of women put their hand over their mouth after they scream.
To add I would have to say only about 5% of men cover their mouth after they scream.
Why do people do that?

It would depend on why I was screaming. Now if someone put their hand over my mouth while I was screaming that would be a whole another thing.

I can’t remember the last time I screamed.

I don’t usually scream when I’m startled, surprised, in pain, or scared. The last time I screamed was when I had severe vertigo, and I didn’t put my hand over my mouth. I’ve only seen that in movies when the person feels like screaming but it would be dangerous to do it, but I don’t watch scary movies if that maybe makes a difference.

There is all sorts of things portrayed in movies and TV shows that people don’t do or shouldn’t try but movies make it seem commonplace.

Like when someone is gravely injured and wants to say something because they think they are dying, the person next to them says “you’re not going to die shhhh.” That is the most idiotic annoying thing to me. What about kissing under water? Foolish.

It’s considered unladylike to leave the mouth hanging agape, so a lady always covers her mouth at some point. IF you do it while you’re screaming or before the scream, nobody will hear you scream…hence the covering “after” the scream!!!

Men, in general, don’t scream. They shout.
I don’t scream.
You said you were watching prank videos. I’m guessing the women cover their mouths in embarrassment when they realize the joke’s on them.

Yeah, I think that might be it.
