I really like cruising. I did a 5 day trip to the Caribbean and a one week trip in Alaska. Alaska was one of my top 5 vacations of all time, I loved it.
The best part of the cruise is everything is right there. No struggling with driving directions or stressing out about what to do.
I will warn you that if you get sick on a cruise you will be stuck in your cabin, so don’t be shy about wearing a mask in crowded indoor spaces like during the nightly entertainment when you will be seated right next to strangers for an hour if the auditorium is full or public restrooms if you feel so inclined. I have had several friends get sick, although most of my friends have not become sick cruising, so I don’t want to sound paranoid, but it ruins the cruise when it happens. Not just covid, colds, flu, they will quarantine you.
We’ve taken 4 cruises to Alaska and one kinda famous one to Hawaii.
4 to Alaska? Why keep going there?
Because cruising is fun! Sometimes we don’t even get off the ship at a port.
One our 5 trips, 3 were with friends, which is great. 2 were difficult because of Covid.
Since going on the the Death Cruise, we’ve been on 2 more.
Do you get seasickness? I’ll be sure to wear a mask in a crowd. I want to see the shows and music and dancing and oh swimming pools and stuff. Oh I think I’ll be going crazy with all the stuff going on.
The swimming pools are usually smallish, so it isn’t like being at a big resort, unless maybe you are going on one of the really big ships. Maybe I am spoiled with that since I live in Florida. If it is wintertime where you live and you cruise to the warm sunshine then it will be great to be by any pool.
I don’t get seasick but depending on the time of year when you cruise and where, sometimes the seas are a little rough, and you might feel it in the middle of the night when they speed up, but usually, you are sleeping through it. During the day it is rare to feel the boat moving in most parts of the world. If you are not crossing the ocean from one content to another, I would not think twice about it. Some people are extremely sensitive, but if you have no indication that you have ever been motion sick I would not worry about it at all.
I was in high school. I made friends with some other similarly-aged teens on the boat and we ended up getting pretty drunk a few times. This was a cruise in the Bahamas. Overall it was fun to wake up in a new town, and the boat was so freaking huge that even when we were just spending the day at sea, it was still a blast. Some people feel it’s too “cookie cutter” or phony of an experience. It’s a fair criticism. It’s certainly not the same as traveling and immersing yourself in a different culture. But if you want a “sampler platter” of many different cities, you can cover a lot of ground while you’re sleeping.
Evening cruises only, booze cruz.
Have two friends that worked as musicians on cruise lines in California and one in Florida. One for twenty years.
Yes. Once. It was fine. It was a Disney cruise from Florida to the Bahamas and back. It was okay. I think I would have more enjoyed a cruise with more ports of call, like river cruises in Europe or some such.
The first day was on the boat, but after that, all the moving was overnight, so it was like ‘go to sleep, wake up at next location’. They really had the operation worked out very slickly to get boarding and unboarding as efficient as possible with luggage and what not.
The almost nonstop eating is not something I’m used to.
River cruise ships, yes. Ocean liners? No.
I haven’t gotten seasick, even though we have been on rough seas. I know some people who have.
Several, they’re fun and cost effective. Budget cruises to the Caribbean are ok but they’re somewhat stale IMO. Hawaiian or Alaskan cruises are on another level. If you get seasick on a cruise ship then you would get seasick standing on a pier. It’s unlikely. If you’re worried about that eat some crystalized ginger the day before and during the voyage. I have found that it works better than any drug for motion sickness. This is coming from someone who gets motion sickness and can go on fishing trips in rough seas on a small boat where half to two-thirds of the people fishing just end up puking all day into a big Rubbermaid trash bin.
I have been on two cruises, one from New York to Southampton and the other from Chonqing to Yichang down the Yangtse River. I preferred the Chinese cruise which stopped at places of interest and the incredible mountains we sailed through were more interesting than the endless Atlantic Ocean.
Both were luxurious and both were great fun with lots to do on board. The cruise from New York was on the QE2 and the sizeable storm we encountered mid Atlantic sent spray cascading across our windows but the ship was so huge we hardly felt a tremor.
Never been on one myself, we had considered it before the pandemic hit. Then changed our outlook on it. Now that it’s over though (?) I think you’ll have a blast on a cruise. Have fun and enjoy the experience. And post us some photos please! Like a floating Las Vegas. You old enough for some of that?
I haven’t been on a cruise simply because I get really bad motion sickness & don’t want to be stuck on a ship that’s moving in ways that might set off my motion sickness. IF you do suffer with motion sickness, be sure to take some motion sickness pills with you or you won’t be enjoying any of the shows, swimming pools, or whatever!!! I hope you have a GREAT time!!!
^^ It is supposed to be a really big ship so I might be okay when it comes to that. I’m not suppose to say where we are going but it is across the ocean and I’m so freaking stoked that I’m about to bust!! I’ll be able to go to several beaches in another country…OMG!! I didn’t get any motion sickness when I was on the flight to Florida so that was fun. :)
You’ll be fine, enjoy! Don’t spill the beans though. Can’t wait to hear about your adventures.
I’ve been on one and it was fun. No seasickness.
Your trip sounds fun! Have a great time!
^^OH, I am getting so nervous, we leave tomorrow morning and I just know I’m not gonna sleep a wink. I have so much to do I don’t know what to do. lol
Enjoy! Post some pics for us when you get back, you’re getting to be a real jet setter and globetrotter : ) @RayaHope (She’s the Jet Set, not the old Chevrolet set).
^^ I don’t know what the Chevrolet set is but I’m taking a ship not a jet, silly. lol!
I’m so nervous I’m about to pee myself I’ll be up all night talking my butt off. :D
Relax, it’s normal to be excited on the brink of a big trip. Just try to get some sleep in, plenty of time for activity once you get on board. More stuff than you’ll know what to do with ; ) Shows, swimming pools, nice restaurants, game rooms and water parks, everything you’d find in the city.
Bon Voyage Raya! Wishing you calm seas and happy memories on your adventures.
