What freedoms or prerogatives do you have now when compared to your youth?

I can now listen to heavy metal without being called a Satanist. Sigh, no, some people still think that here.

@Blackwater_Park Me too. Also I can play D&D freely, but no one to play with.

I like listening to riffs, for relaxation.

My minister and dad told me not to get ‘lost” playing D&,D. Which if possible I guess I did? One cannot be lost if you don’t care where you are going.

You in fact cannot have as many juice boxes as you want. Your punishment for having too many is to get fat…and maybe diabetes.

You cannot take a shower/bath anytime. Your co-workers would frown on you bathing in the office sink.

You cannot decide when to go to bed or wake up as you are now old and crave sleep.

I can eat cookies before dinner.

When I was young, I had many reasons to envy the old. For example, they could walk into a sweet shop and buy just whatever they wanted, to give just one example. But like that pot of gold beneath the rainbow the reality has been somewhat disappointing. I now look back with envy on the youthful enthusiasms I once had, and though I have new rainbows, their colours seem not as bright.

I can sleep and get up on my own schedule, which means I get enough sleep most nights. I can own a dog – even two. I could get other pets, too, but of course I have to be mindful of the responsibilities involved. I can eat nothing but cookies and chocolate all day long (but I never do). Let my bedroom get exactly as messy as I like. Leave the house whenever I want to. Move to a different country. Stay in bed when I feel ill, even if I’m “not ill enough”.

I have the freedom to accept responsibility for my choices and pay for them. For instance, last night I had a cookie at bed time. This morning I get to choose between eggs for breakfast, or oatmeal.

I can watch as much TV as I want without my grandmother telling me how useless I was because I wasn’t active like “real” boys.

I don’t have to worry about what other people think about me.
