What restaurants do you associate with vacation?

Asked by JLeslie (65743points) October 31st, 2022 from iPhone

If you eat in one of those restaurants even when you’re not on vacation, does it feel like vacation for an hour while you’re there? Can be anything from fast food to very fancy.

West: In-N-Out
East: Stuckey’s (never ate there—I’ve just seen the billboards a million times)
Further east: Gus’s
North: Original Pancake House

I don’t go south for vacation.

Omg Gus’s! The best chicken in the country.

For me it’s McDonald’s that makes me feel on vacation.

Montana’s steakhouse, or Tony Roma’s. Followed up with a shopping spree at Chapters book store.

Outdoor restaurants at the beach or one near my home on a riverfront where you can watch the sunset.

@JLeslie- the second time I had Gus’s, I had it for dinner. When I woke up the next morning, my very first thought was “Damn, that was good fried chicken.”

We were in a small café yesterday not far from my flat where we had the most perfect halloumi wrap made by a guy who spoke imperfect English. It felt like somewhere in the Eastern Mediterranean despite the grey Glasgow rain falling outside. As we left, I had to tell him that was the most delicious wrap he had served us. “I know” he said, a little sadly I thought.

Not really a restaurant, but it’s Krispy Kreme Donuts. When we used to go to Myrtle Beach for vacation, we always stopped there and got donuts because we didn’t have them in my state.
We looked forward to going there as much as going to the beach.
We now have Krispy Kreme Donuts here, and have had them for a few years. Though it does remind me of the beach, I have only been a handful of times because it’s just not quite the same.

McDonalds in the early morning hours makes me think of driving down to see family for the holidays.

@kevbo1 Had I recommended it to you when you were in Memphis? Now, they have franchises in other states.

@chyna My husband is working at Krispy Kreme. The Halloween donut with the Oreo cookie type crumble on top is delicious!

@Tropical_Willie I love both those restaurants, along with the sister to Hula Grill at Lake Tahoe Jakes On the Lake in Tahoe City.

@JLeslie, I don’t think you had, but I have family there, and we went for lunch my first time.

McDonald’s for an egg McMuffin and a smoothie.

The chain ones. We stay away from them unless they are the only options. We are good at finding the places where the locals like to eat.

There are a few taverns in northern Wisconsin that bring me fond memories of their fish fry’s and potato pancakes.

I don’t eat at chain restaurants. I support local.

McDonald’s for a good, reasonably priced breakfast (esp. if the hotel does not provide free breakfast).
