Do you sometimes think/hope, that god only keeps evil people alive for so long, so she can torture them extra hard in hell?

Asked by ragingloli (52227points) November 30th, 2022

What other reason could there be, for an allegedly “benevolent” god to keep inflicting these people on the world for so long?

Maybe he keeps them alive longer to give them every chance to change their ways, and be saved.

No. If there is a god in the first place, why should she wait until person gets to hell?

A real powerful god could/would torture them here on earth, where everyone can see. WHy hide it?

Ummm. I can supply the names of people who should be added to the list.

My lord feeds on the anxiety and fear of the people and is waiting to be freed to devour the souls of the Earth. Praise be.

I don’t believe in magic or magic beings like fairies or dragons or gods or ghosts or demons or elves or vampires or werewolves or angels etc.

I love the stories. They’re entertaining. But I don’t believe in nursery rhymes or fantasy novels like The Bible, no matter how many copies it sells.

If there’s a god, it goes for the “long con” where their punishment is way longer down the line.
Take some company like Enron who probably thought they were so smart until they ended up in jail.

American racists actually thought they were superior, but hundreds of years later they are the butt of all the incest jokes and are just as poor and a pariah of society as african Americans.

Bullies that peak in highschool but have crappy lives later on down the line etc.

That would be a sick thing for her to do.

That implies She keeps them around to torture US HERE.

Dutchess_III's avatar

Yeah. Like the Darrell Brooks of this world. Why didn’t She stop him???

RayaHope's avatar

I don’t believe that God is a woman because if she was, she would not or even could not be that cruel.

Dutchess_III's avatar

So you think God is male @Rayahope?

elbanditoroso's avatar

@RayaHope women can be just as cruel as men – some even more so.

God must take at least some responsibility for the existence of evil people.

I believe I understand that even “evil” people have a core being that would/could connect with the universe in positive ways, and longs to do so. When people are so twisted that they are stuck in evil patterns, they suffer greatly at their core. So people who lead long evil lives, are suffering all that time.

I don’t think God has a specific gender. Or maybe all genders and none at the same time. Maybe more of a powerful force, entity, energy or spirit.

A hospice nurse told me many truly evil people are afraid to die. One man was alive with most of his body in rigor and excruciating pain, but he said he knew the Devil was waiting to take him to Hell.

If you choose to abandon God while believing in Him, perhaps the Devil will start claiming you earlier than expected.

For so many people who profess a belief in God, you would expect they might be better behaved. You would think even the skeptics such as myself would resist preying on and exploiting the vulnerable, just in case we’re wrong concerning the illogical notion of the omnipotent man in the sky.

I’ve said more than once that I hope the Christians are right and the very evil people wind up in hell.

@KNOWITALL The grandfather of a friend of mine was very sick and in bad pain at the end of his life. Hospice had told the family how much morphine would kill him, but he never wanted the high doses, he was TERRIFIED to die. He kept saying he was going to burn in hell.

I never asked my friend exactly why he felt he would be punished. I don’t know if he had maybe been abusive to the family, or maybe his fears went back to his military service. I really don’t know why he felt that way.

He was a pilot during WWII and the family was proud of his service, but who knows how he felt about dropping bombs on cities. He suffered from PTSD I think. My friend said it was very upsetting seeing him so afraid at the end. He lingered for several months in pain and overall deterioration from lung cancer.

@JLeslie Christian people who believe in Hell think that anybody who is non-Christian, whether or not they are good people, will end up in Hell. That means you and me since we are Jews.

JLeslie's avatar

@Caravanfan I know that, but I don’t believe that obviously. I’m just talking about the evil people, not all the beliefs they have about hell. If there is a God it makes no sense to me that God would care about what religion someone was, I think He would care that we were good people.
