What foods do you need a condiment in order to eat?

Asked by RedDeerGuy1 (24945points) December 5th, 2022

Can be current or the past food?

Example:
Pre-90’s I disliked the original KFC French fries with out lots of ketchup and or gravy, and definitely not a day in the refrigerator.

You?
Tell us what foods that you can’t eat without drenching in sauce?

Humor welcome.

Fish & Chips. Malt vinegar is an absolute must. I also have this thing about worcestershire sauce with steaks. I can’t remember when, but I acquired a habit early on of dipping forkfuls of steak in a ramiken or other small bowl of the stuff. Come to think of it, this is probably the longest stretch in my adult life that I haven’t had a nice steak, and it’s rather peculiar that I haven’t missed it. The pandemic has tilted my life in so many bizarre and unforeseen ways.

I use my fries as a carrier for ketchup. I can pretend I am eating healthy tomatoes.

Fries are basically bad everywhere on the planet. They are essentially inedible without condiments. That said, they serve fairly well as a mayonnaise delivery system.

Reagan declared ketchup to be a vegetable.

@LuckyGuy
Fries must be eaten with Mayonnaise.

I can’t eat lamb curry without mango chutney.

I can’t eat sushi without a mix of soy sauce and wasabi.

I can’t eat Hunan onion cakes without chili sauce.

@zenvelo I read that as Human onion cakes!

zenvelo's avatar

^^^^ @janbb then I should have gotten a great answer :)

^^ You get condiments of the house instead!

Buffalo wings with blue cheese dressing.

@zenvelo We must eat at the same restaurants!

@ragingloli If you use mayo, how to you reach your minimum daily requirement of lycopene to reduce stroke risk? I figured ketchup neutralized the salt and fat risk in fries.

I just thought of another one. Lately, I have been dipping my pizza in blue cheese dressing. A disgusting practicet, indeed.

@LuckyGuy
When you eat fast food, its healthiness is pretty much at the bottom of the list of priorities.

I have to have lots of butter and sour cream on my baked potato. Come to think of it, lots of ketchup on my fries, too. Potatoes are just kind of dry and bland.

I don’t use condiments much, I like the taste of food naturally. I don’t eat French fries.

Let’s be honest, there are ALOT of foods that are just sauce-holders. Most non-flavored chips (flavored chips are merely pre-loading the sauce in powder form) are just salsa/dip delivery mechanisms. Shrimp are not that tasty…unless they’re carrying cocktail or tartar sauce into your maw. Celery is a worthless thing…unless there’s a jar of peanut butter or ranch nearby.

WOW I agree with @ragingloli 100% on this. Well I do cheat and sometimes put a (little) ketchup mixed in with the mayo.

Ranch dressing makes everything better.

janbb's avatar

@chyna Everything? (nudge, nudge, wink, wink)

I had a friend (he passed away three years ago at 87) he used to say Mayonnaise (he liked Duke’s we live in NC) was the best and his wife agreed . . . . wink wink wink !!!

RayaHope's avatar

^ I don’t get this BUT I don’t think I want to.

janbb's avatar

@RayaHope Your instincts are right on! Keep being young. BTW, I’m not sure I totally get it either…..

Burgers. Mustard.

Human onion cakes.

IMHO, fast food french fried demands a healthy (or unhealthy) slathering of ketchup…or at the worst mustard…I prefer ketchup on ALL my fries; but with the fast food type, it’s a MUST!!!

kruger_d's avatar

Soft pretzels with garlic honey mustard mayo. Yum!

Given events of this week, it is apparent that when eating crow one must have catsup to throw on the wall.

I see what you did @zenvelo with a bottle of Diet Coke !
