It’s a name, like 10,000 others. Nothing special about it, except that it’s short.

It does get bastardized a lot. I have seen it as Aimee, Ammee. once as Aymy. So people can screw up a spelling of a three letter word.

In my life, I have known probably 15–20 Amys. One was a very good friend. Most were acquaintances or work colleagues. One was a real bitch.

I have never slept with anyone named Amy.

I happen to like it, although I wish Pure Prairie League had not used a variant spelling for Amie

I like Amy. Amy Lee, and Amy Fara Fouler.

The only problem is that she would get called on first In school, for homework, because of the alphabetical order.

Yes. Amy is an excellent name. I tend to think of it as short for Amelia, but it often isn’t short for anything.

Neutral to positive. It’s a bit generic, but I certainly have no negative connotations with it and I’ve known some really cool women named Amy in my time.

I don’t like names that end with a long E sound. Like Amy. Or Mary. Or Julie.

I like it.

Meh…take it or leave it, mostly leave. Imo it sounds prissy, too girly.

I’m not attracted to three-letter names, as a rule, although I do recognize some exceptions.

I like it.

@Jeruba Three letters, but it’s two syllables. I tend to think more about the syllables for names. Did you mean you tend to not like three letter names in the written form? Or, the spoken word also?

@elbanditoroso I thought Aimee is the French spelling.

elbanditoroso's avatar

@JLeslie maybe, I have known a couple Americans who spell in that way.

@Jeruba

As a charter member of the ‘three letter name’ society, I take umbrage with your statement.

Many people have short first names:

Bob
Lon
Tim
Tom
Ted
Rod
Ken
Sam
Sal
Don
Val
Wil
Jan
Kit
Gil

and what about two-letter names like:
Al
Ed

@elbanditoroso I know more than two Americans who spell their name Aimee, I was just saying they are using the French spelling.

You listed a bunch of names that are short for other names. Amy stands on its own, so I see it differently. I wonder if @Jeruba will feel the same. You missed the names I would list like:

Ana
Ann
Avi
Guy
Ira
Ava
Eva
Ian
Lee
Mae
May
Mia
Nia
Zoe

I realize there are people named Ted or Tim on their birth certificates, but usually they are Theodore and Timothy respectively.

I really love it. I wanted to name my first daughter Amy. But I ended up never having any children.

smudges's avatar

Hiyas @anniereborn!

I was going to name my first girl Hannah Lee, but I ended up with no kids too.

anniereborn's avatar

@smudges HA! That was my second pick.
