If you only take classes, or training, that you hate are you only qualified for jobs you hate?

Or can one take training in something that you hate, and end up with a job that you like?

I pretty well hated most math courses I took. It’s different when you actually get to apply it to do something useful. Then you start to enjoy it. You’re not going to like all courses you take. Some programs are like a mental boot camp that you just have to survive.

If you hate the possible jobs, why would you waste time training for them?

RedDeerGuy1's avatar

@zenvelo It’s the other way around. Are their any jobs that one likes when they hate the training?

@RedDeerGuy1 Most people realize if they hate the training so much to go find another field because they won’t like the job.

@zenvelo Ok thanks. I was wondering if I made a mistake in not forcing myself to take classes that I hate. I love biology and social studies. I hate math and physics, except statistics which I love.

Ya the situation can be more complicated than your question. Good college courses can give you a taste of what it’s like to do serious work in a subject, but:

1) Intro courses can give you the fundamental tools and info you need to make working in the subject easy.
2) The work of learning may be the part you hate, rather than the application of what you learned.
3) The teacher and class can vary a lot, potentially making the difference in how clear, interesting, and enjoyable a subject may be.
4) Learning to distinguish between those things, as a student trying to learn what they want to do further work on, is a tricky but very valuable ability to develop.

Many times someone will have to take classes in order to fulfill the requirements for the future job they’d like to do. Doctors have to take math and chemistry, for example. No matter what job you want, you can just about guarantee there will be at least one class you don’t enjoy. If you go into it with the attitude of already hating it, then you will probably hate it. If you go in with an open mind, you might not love it, but may find you semi-like it or it’s at least bearable.

Training is an entirely different matter. Training is specifically for a particular job or type of job, so don’t train for a job you think you want if you don’t like the description of the training.
